Wheel alignment

I have just replaced my front upper and lower suspension arms.

I know it will now need a wheel alignment, but does it need a 'standard' wheel alignment or a 4 wheel alignment ?

Not sure if having 4wd versus 2 wheel drive makes a difference.

Also not sure if the rears can (or could) be adjusted ?

4 wheel alignment - the rears can be adjusted.

Go somewhere with a decent reputation - try alignmycar website.

I foolishly agreed to a "free" alignment check at Kwik Fit once - my suspicions were aroused when the technician asked why my suspension wouldn't rise - he was pulling the EPB...

Luckily it got no further as the hydraulic pipe blew off the lift when he tried to lift the D3 up ...

Yes - I chuckled as I drove off.

The amount of oil pooling below the lift didn't look pretty - not sure what the other waiting customers thought either

Its booked in to a place with the hunter wheel alignment set-up which looks quite impressive.

Even though I tried to line up the camber bolts per previous, the car drives like its on ice lol.

Cant believe it can make such a difference.

Lets see how I get on later.

Wheel alignment done.

Was obviously easier to sort the front as I have just changed them, but it took about 30minutes to adjust both front and rear to get in the 'green' tolerance.

Cost £96 at Bristol Wheel alignment, I would recommend if anyone else needed this doing and is local.

I would add that just because the garage has the right equipment does necessarily mean the technician knows how to use it!

I was please as punch to find a body repair shop in Plymouth had invested in a brand spanking new Hunter alignment system.

It became clear very early on though that the technician had no idea how to operate it. I cut my losses, made my excuses & let before they made any adjustments & went back to my usual garage in Bodmin which is some distance from me.

I'd recommend asking a few leading questions before allowing them loose on your prized possession just to confirm that know what there doing.

If they have a Hunter Roadforce balancer on site, it's well worth the extra to get the wheels matched & balanced to maximise the best from the ride & handling.

Needless to say, said body shop in Plymouth is no longer around.
