Collection/delivery/postage for a Discovery tyre - any ideas |
|
Hi,
I have a tyre I am selling on ebay - Pirelli Scorpion 255/55/19 - no rim.
Big, bulky and heavy.
Any ideas on how I can get it shipped to a buyer at reasonable cost please?
I'm guessing too big for Hermes and PostOffice....
I see DPD do Tyre delivery but can't find the costs.....
Many thanks
JC

I had a trailer tyre sent to me by Hermes, it was just wrapped in clingfilm, seemed to arrive no problems, size wise I think you'd be ok with Hermes (their maximum weight is 15kg) but would you trust them? I wouldn't... ParcelFarce are ok with bulky items, will be using them soon... I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I've sent many large and bulky things with Parcel Force as well - if you can package it (as nigethecat says cling film/black wrap should be fine) you can take it to the local depot:
https://www.parcelforce.com/depot-finder
...and they'll weigh it and name their price:
https://www.parcelforce.com/sending-parcel/our-prices
Note that the prices there are the basic cost, so a tyre (being large and heavy) will cost more. D3 2005 HSE

Hi,
My wife has done some digging today on this.
Looks like Post Office can do it as a parcel door to door for £12 or £9 if dropped off at their local depot.
Thanks

UPS will do tyres and were really quick when I sent one to Scotland - out of here at 09:30 and delivered at 10:00 the following day.
However…
…and it’s a big one…. I’d wrapped the tyre in pallet wrap so it was a giant black Polo with a hole in the middle. Dead easy to handle, move around etc and very, very well wrapped.
Imagine my concern when I got an additional charge about three weeks later on the basis that it hadn’t been properly packed! Apparently, their packing requirements are that it should be protected either side with card… so fully packed to either side and then pallet wrapped would have been far harder to handle but OK (in their eyes) and cheaper to move.
