Italian trip

Just back from our ‘annual’ euro jaunt. Shorter than usual for us at 2177 miles, usually do around 3300 miles, but we had longer stays in places this time.

Went in the Evoque as just the two of us (and stepdaughter damaged both passenger doors on my Defender while I was away so that’s an insurance claim Rolling Eyes ), averaged 43.2mpg brim-to-brim with highs of 70mpg showing on long ‘downhill’ journeys in alps.

Quick blitz to Dijon on day one. Stopped in cheap and basic F1 hotel (?), can’t complain at £28 for secure parking, comfy bed and decent shower. Went into Dijon for evening, lovely place.

Then over the alps to Aosta on Italian side for a few days. Really nice place. Drove up the ‘hill’ opposite where we were stopping and peaked at 6000 feet.

Down to the west coast of Italy to Monterosso for four nights, one of the world heritage ‘Cinq Terre’ villages. Did a few of the walks between villages, hard but worth it.

Next onto Bergamo for four nights, love this place, been many times to watch Atalanta football club, people usually miss out Bergamo to head for Milan but Bergamo is beautiful and clean and Milan is a sh*t hole in comparison (OK the duomo isn’t bad Wink ). Took in Lake Iseo whilst there, again not as popular as the ‘other’ lakes but still beautiful.

From here onto Basel, again great drive up, and final stop in Namur in Belgium before heading home again.

You shouldn't be doing any sorting/checking of them. Follow DSL's approach and take the "quantity over quality" approach Rolling with laughter

Did it towing the tintent in June. Over via Calais, first stop at Verdum, then into Switzerland to brunnen, then through the gotthard tunnel to tenero. From there down to lake Garda for a couple of weeks. ( inc a trip to the two Ferrari museums) Then across to Grenoble, up via central France and home via Caen. A month away in total. Thumbs Up

Given we had a simple 'Wiener schnitzel' meal and a few small beers in Basel and it cost nearly a hundred quid, I should of thought of you sooner.........

The plate of food in the pics was just a pre-meal antipasto. We had a table booked elsewhere and dropped in a bar for a drink and they asked if we wanted antipasto and we uuuhmed and aahed a little and went "oh, go on then". Up to that point we'd been served small 'pincho' style nibbles really so when they bought that tray out we were a bit astounded TBH.

They then had the temerity to charge us €3 for it, that's €3 for the both of us Laughing

The sat-nav spikes did match my heart-rate over meal cost in Switzerland....... We should have known as during the day walking round Basel we decided to stop for a coffee and snack sat overlooking the river. We went to what can best be described as 'Swiss Greggs' as we had a 'sausage roll' each and shared an apple-strudel slice type cake and two small take-out coffees was twenty quid Shocked

In the evening SWMBO wanted a 'Schnitzel and chips' meal, as you do when in Switzerland Laughing , We found a 'traditional' style bar in side streets and a schnitzel with big bowl of fries (nothing else came with meal) and five small 250ml beers was..........£93.

Our review of Switzerland; lovely views, great roads but drive through don't stop to eat, sleep or drink Laughing
