Intermittent suspension fault. MY14 XXV

I've been having an intermittent issue with the suspension over the last few months.

Occasionally (about once per week) the Disco would go down on the n/s/r corner overnight. I mentioned this, when it went in for its annual service, but apparently there were no fault codes and they couldn't find a problem. I'd not had any suspension warning lights either.

About a week later it started happening again with more frequency. Booked it back into the dealer, who we have a pretty good relationship with having bought several cars from them.

Long story short, they kept the car for more than a week before the fault occurred. At this point, they diagnosed that it was a shock absorber causing the problem and this was ordered and changed. Picked the car up yesterday and the permagrin was restored on the motorway drive home.

Got up this morning and its down again.

I measured the height from floor to the bottom of the wheel arch.

n/s/f 79 cm
n/s/r 74.5 cm
o/s/f 84 cm
o/s/r 79.5 cm

Once I start the car, everything levels and all is well... But it looks like I've paid to have a shock absorber replaced unnecessarily!

Has anyone had any similar problems, and if so, what did it turn out to be?

Did your garage recalibrate the suspension after fitting new air spring?. If not,you must do it with the iid tool or similar.You should be measuring from the wheel centre to the arch while on level ground.

To play devils advocate here, the OSF is 84cm, 5cm higher than the NSF. The NSR is 74.5cm, 5cm lower OSR. Could it be that the OSF isn’t exhausting when the car self levels post shut down. The car continually self levels at regular intervals even when locked and asleep. That may cause the diagram opposite to be lower if it is exhausting. I would however expect to see an indication or fault code.

IME if there's a suspension fault it's usually a b Censored r to get to the bottom of. And fault codes aren't usually of that much help. It's back to putting soapy water on the bits that might leak Whistle

It’s going back to the dealer next week. The last couple of days it’s only had a slight drop in the n/s/r corner.

Apparently they tried lots of soapy water during their investigations. Intermittent faults are always a pain in the backside to find.

Hey AVE. I appreciate this is a pretty old thread now but it came up on my search.

My dad is having very similar issues you were - no fault codes, intermittent overnight sagging.

Did you get to the bottom of it?

Yes... it was some time ago.

We ended up replacing the compressor in the end, and touch wood, its been fine since.
