Running Board fitting Derby Area. |
|
Hi all.
Trying to find someone to fit Side steps/running boards to my newly acquired D4 with 12 miles of Derby, I can travel there, or they can come to me, whatever works best. Been in touch with a specialist who quoted £400 for 5 hours, clearly busy and don't want the job I would suggest.
Yes, I know I can do it myself, were I that confident , and of course could get the sill off and refit it in good order?
Any help appreciated.
Second problem, I have a HSE Lux and would like to replace the door card for the driver's door in grey, where's the best place to get one, new or breakers if condition is ok?
Thanks all. Its all in the grip of the Tyre Fitters hand!

Try Gentlemen of Salvage or Kent 4x4 breakers for the door card... plenty of other breakers out there as well.
Side steps are a really easy fitting job, just take your time and everything will line up, always best to clean the holes out before you try putting the new bolts in if they haven't been used before. It could pay you to buy a set of pre-cut sills from someone on the forum (wonder who that might be? ) and then keep your original uncut ones for selling the car or if you change your mind later on (I personally wouldn't put side steps on a car but each to their own...
One final thing while you have the sills off coat them with raptor or similar and add dinitrol to through the holes to help prevent rust inside the sill...
Have fun and drop me a pm if you want the pre-cut sills... I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Ditto above for Gentleman of salvage, here pretty good for D3 parts.
Sites are a “simple” fit, Brit part did a good video below, not sure how the garage can justify 5 hours!
Happy to come up one weekend and help out if you need it.

Just in case there's any misunderstanding it's only the plastic sill cover you need to take off not the sill. Two screws at the back and then some push in plastic studs at the bottom and some little pop fasteners at the top. All the holes to bolt the brackets to the sills are already there and threaded. It really shouldn't take more than an hour per side.

Black would be a sensible choice but as it will be covered with the plastic sill it doesn't matter too much, if you have the option to spray them them then go that way but a good roller coat will also work (as will Hammerite).. I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!
