Towing electrics

I have an issue with my 2016 Disco 4

the car was not manufactured with towing electrics. My local land rover dealer installed the land rover 13 pin harness.

however, when I start the car, i do not get the trailer light illuminate on bulb check. When I connect the trailer - the lights work, but no trailer indicator on the dash when indicating.

I have an IID tool, nothing relating to towing appears to be activated in the cars CCF file. when i add 13 pin electrics - still no joy. this is a little irritating, because i expressly asked for the software update.

so my questions.

1. the manual says the trailer lamp should illuminate on bulb check (ign 2)- is this only true on vehicles which are equipped with the tow pack? there are a number of lamps on the dash that don't illuminate on bulb check - presumably because they relate to options/equipment not fitted.

2. Could it be a bulb failure on the dash? if so are these able to be changed and how do I tell?

3 what options should be enabled in the CCF file for 13 pin electrics with a detachable tow ball?

4. Is there another way of checking whether the car is detecting a trailer.

5. i thought it was a legal requirement to have an indication that the trailer lights are functioning, in which case any ideas on how to get this fixed/

In answer to (some of) your questions…
1. I’ve never noticed the trailer light coming on as part of the start up on any of my D4s.. but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t although the electrics have always worked fine.

2. Unlikely but possible although if it were me I’d explore other options first

3. All options should have been enabled by the dealer so it seems most likely that they haven’t done this (quelle surprise!)

4. Hook it up to another trailer with non-LED lights… pretty much failsafe way of telling

5. Yes, it is a legal requirement. I’d be taking the car back to the dealer that installed the electrics and asking them to sort it! Trailer electrics are pretty simple to install and the updates again are very easy.. I’ve done it on four cars now and never had an issue..
I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!
