Is the D4 cruise as crap as the D3?

Had my D3 for years now good old girl, but the delay between switching cruise on and it actually taking control of the throttle drives me nuts.
I can remember the D1 and D2 being just as rubbish, so am curious if the D4 is as bad?

Never heard anyone mention 'Cruise Control Delay' before? Mine's instant. Perhaps because it's a manual gearbox?

Delays pretty much every time I use it, steady throttle at 70 mph on the flat hit cruise and it may drop to 67/68 then back to 70, occasionally overshooting by 1 maybe 2mph.
Once on a steady cruise its not bad unless its a real long steep hill, but thats more down to the 2.7s lack of bhp.

Just drove 1500 miles in the thing and I would say 95 percent of the time it delayed before taking over.
Even my wife noticed it, and she does not tend to notice anything car related!

I am amazed you can get to 70 in Norfolk Mr. Green

Was on the A140 yesterday, that road really bloody annoys me, especially Norwich to a14.

The bit of A140 through Long Stratton is due to be bypassed. ready in a couple of years apparently.

I’ve never driven a D3 so can’t compare to that. But the cruise is almost instant on my D4.

If you want laggy and poor control cruise control get a Toymota Hilux. My company supplied MY18 is shockingly bad, to be fair the whole vehicle is a POS.

I've experienced the same as you, lynalldiscovery. Going up hills, it takes just that instant too long to catch up. Annoying... Evil or Very Mad

Have D3 & D4, As already said, D3 is very laggy but the D4 is spot on, it instantly holds the speed went you set it. It also tells you the set speed on the dash.

I lived there 25 odd yrs ago and they were talking about the bypass then, did notice they have some pretty new roundabouts here and there.

Thank you for all the replies, I guess I will just live with it as I do like the car even though she is getting leggy.

There is a setting in the "Speed Control" CCF for the comms path which appears gives you options as to how the communication with the PCM is carried. I noticed it recently on a D3 which had suddenly "forgotten" Rolling Eyes it had the speed control fitted. I reselected the CCF but left whatever comms settings were already selected (just in case I cacked it Laughing )

I seem to remember there were HSC, MSC, options amongst others but without interfering with these settings the cruise control was restored. The owner tells me with that the illuminated instrument cluster icon now comes on which it never did before. Rolling Eyes
