Another lpfp/hpfp question! |
|
So,
Ive had a read through of various posts here regarding fuel pump issues. I've also read robbies guide to the diagnosis . Most peoples issues end up being the hpfp in the end, but im not looking forward to it being that.
Please note - i haven't done any diagnosis yet, i ordered a pressure gauge but the cheap chinese one it turned out to be didn't have the correct fitting!
So had the limp mode come up for a few times.
Ran the codes, had the low fuel pressure one once (forgot to record it), but more commonly P117D fuel volume regulator control exceeded maximum control limit. Also, P0191-23 fuel rail pressure sensor range/performance.
Now i know im gonna have to diagnose properly, and im considering taking it to a lr indie later this week, so im just stabbing in the dark here, but would the fact i was running it on fumes (less than 20 miles left on the range) have any bearing on the fault?
Is it possible tank crap at the bottom has bunged up the gauze on the in line pump? would this account for the other codes or are they more likely to be hpfp faults?
Ive changed the main fuel filter btw.
Can driving it with this intermittent fault damage the engine in any way?

Yes the pump filter can get blocked but its worth replacing the whole pump unit if your going to do the job. Its also worth cleaning the inside of the tank when your doing the job it often gets over looked and leads to premeture failure of the pump. Andrew

Hi Bob! I've wasted my time trying to avoid HPFP replaced. Don't waste yours. I've changed LPFP cleanse everything, tried injector cleaners and ended up, after 4 limp modes and F on dashboard, changing the HPFP. Hope to do it next week after pump arrives from UK. 2.500 dollars job
