Sat nav & Heated screen

Hi all.

Does anyone know if the heated screen in a D3 would affect my 3rd party sat nav ? I don't use the inbuilt nav in my 2005 SE as it's out of date, so I have a TomTom start 60 & a Garmin Nuvi, neither of which seem to be able to acquire a valid GPS signal when stuck to the inside of the windscreen (centre bottom) Even if I drive for an hour or more, no luck.

If I sit them outside they find the GPS satellites oK after a minute or two.

I'm thinking that the heating wires in the windscreen may be somehow shielding the signal ?

Thanks

Mat

Had the same in an earlier D3, just run a GPS aerial up the passenger pillar to near the top of the screen (should be just outside the coverage of the heated elements) and you should be good to go..
I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Thanks for the reply. How does the GPS aerial attach to the sat nav ? I don't see a port or connector for an external aerial ?

Thanks

It depends on your version, I'm not sure if the earlier/lower spec versions had this option, there was an external aerial connection socket on the one I had..

At the edge of the windscreen is about 3 inches where there is no heater.
You could try putting it right in the corner

I use occasionally a TomTom rider in my HSE with heated screen fitted… never a problem
Used it from italy till the UK till Tjechie…

Use it in the bottom/middle of the screen… works within a few meters, every time…

When did you update the maps and maybe more important the system software? They do need new satellite position info updates once in a while…

No correct satellite positioning updates and you get these issues, because “it” looks at the wrong position..
Been there…

Edit: i just see yours does work outside the car…… stil maybe an update does fix this…
 Best regards
Harold
