| what stops the car going to access height? |
|
I am at a loss as to work out whats going on with my car
Car lowers slightly overnight, accept there is a likely a leak on one corner or another but as soon as I start it up it raises quickly to standard height.
I can raise up to offroad no problem and back down to standard.
what I can never do, is drop to access height. When selected, it lowers, pings, says its in extended mode and immediately raises again
now I know there is no physical obstruction like a rock or something, its never gone to access in the few years I've owned it.
recently I have, for one reason or another:
replaced all 4 height sensors
replaced all lower control arms
replaced upper rear control arms
replaced sway bar & bushings
everytime I have done anything I have re-calibrated the suspension with IID
still no joy to lower to access
what else could I check? Its not critical I get access height, but it would be nice to be able to drop it sometimes

Given what you said I expect the exhaust valve in the compressor isn’t allowing air to escape quickly enough

Try hitting the access height button again as soon as message says it is going back up and often it will stay down.

Probably a very outside chance but....
On our old D3, I could sometimes manually create this situation by trying to hit access height when in Park and with the EPB on. My guess was with all four wheels locked in position and unable to "spread" a little as the car dropped, there was enough resistance to make the car's sensors think it was grounded.
The easy solution was to hit access height with EPB off and in N, so that the suspension/wheels could move as needed.
As I say, I doubt this will help as unlikely you've never tried access height in this way. Cheers,

You say you have recalibrated it, is that setting the standard height to the correct measurements on all wheels?- all height modes are taken from the standard height, if the standard height is set to low and you select access height the suspension lowers a fixed distance not to a preset point, if this distance is below access height the body hits the bump stops and thinks it’s grounded and immediately goes to off road height, check the standard height is correct on level ground if it still does it try setting the standard height slightly higher to prove a point. It can when others can't,

One more tip check where the lift rod is located on the arms and make sure none of the bars on the arms is not bent the should all be uniformly the same distance apart from the arms D4 GS let the retro fit begin
