No hot air / Engine temperature gauge dropping back to 1/4

Hello everyone, new 2007 TDV6 Disco3 owner here.
My cabin is not getting any hot air (with or without AC) even when I put it on maximum heat.
If I have a long descent without using much throttle, the engine temperature gauge drops back to the 1/4 position.
Pretty sure it's the thermostat being stuck open but is there any way I can double-check before buying parts?
And can you replace just the thermostat? Or do you have to replace the thermostat + housing?

More than likely an air lock in the system Thumbs Up

 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Sounds like thermostat.
The thermostat is a one piece housing.

As yours is an 07 (Euro 4) probably, there are two small thermostats in the EGR coolers and if they stick open then you get the same result as the main thermostat staying open.

Thank you very much! I'm going to try this today. Very new to the LR ownership, so very grateful for the advice guys!

I got my EGR's removed and the LR specialist also remapped the ECU to prevent error codes. If the EGR's are removed, would the coolers still be there? Or are they a part of the EGR's themselves?

There is a difference between removing and blanking EGRs, it is usual to blank not remove when having a remap Thumbs Up

You're right, my mistake Laughing EGR's have been blanked off instead of removed. Embarassed
