| Aux input - low volume, right channel only |

I used to be able to use a Kinivo BTC450 plugged into the Aux input to run my iPhone, but since the dash was removed a year ago to replace the heater matrix it's never worked - no left channel at all and the right channel is very thin.
I have already blindly wiggled all the connectors on the back of the hifi to no effect. I've just replaced the Aux In panel between the front seats with a brand new unit in case the 3.5mm jack had been jerked, but to no effect. What else is in that circuit that could cause the left channel to disappear? The hifi works perfectly in all other respects.

There is a connector to the left of the passenger footwell
Behind the panel.
Volume does tend to be low
