D4 clicking/chafing sound from offside rear wheel
I’ve seen a couple of posts on this but not obvious typical problem/solution.
Noise increases with wheel rotation speed and sounds like a chuffing train. Ive checked tyre and had the wheel off. There was a lot of rust flakes behind the disc guard which I removed but this hasn’t resolved it.
Fearing the CV joint or something more serious? Could it be something to do with EPB or other foreign body inside?

Sounds like it may be an issue with the epb shoes. It's not uncommon for the shoe retaining springs to break (or other bits) due to rust and get jammed between the shoe and the disc.yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

That sounds very plausible. I’ve just watched a YouTube video and can see the springs and parts you mention. Many thanks

Have you checked the wire hook that holds the handbrake cable is still in place ? If it wears through the cable can rub on the wheel rim, clicking as it catches any wheel balance weights.Disco 4

Nothing obvious when I took wheel off but it’s in having discs, pads and EPB shoe kits today, so will tell them to look out for this. Thanks for advice

All sorted and your diagnosis was correct PROFSR G thank you; a pile of bits inside handbrake drum cavity. I would have done myself but needed it done to go away tonight - so now lighter of £360 unfortunately. That includes new discs, pads, sensors, EPB shoes and fitting kit which I presume includes the springs etc you mention. APEC parts not my first choice but hey-ho
Hope this helps someone else.

It was the clips on mine as well , unfortunately I should have waited for my indie to do it , instead I some another garage made an absolute mess of it and I ended up having to get the EPB actuator replaced align with everything else
