Hi all,
as a newbie to the site, I might have got the section wrong for this post, so apologies if I did.
I am living in Switzerland but am coming back to the UK next week for a visit. I am also looking to buy a new(ish) Discovery so I thought I would combine the two events and either fly across and hire a Disco for a few days whilst I am in the UK OR hire one from Switzerland and then drive over (thus allowing me to bring back the things I miss from the Island that are hard to get over here).
The question I have is does anyone know anywhere in the UK I can rent a Disco or anywhere in Switzerland? I have found plenty of places renting Range Rovers, but as I am not thinking of buying a Range Rover (not on my salary) then I don't want to test drive one. I have looked at a few sites on the Internet, but they all claim that their Discos are rented out (I say claim as I don't believer they really have them, I think its just a ploy as they automatically have Range Rovers available).
Any help or advice would be very welcome. Also, any pointers on a good place in Switzerland to buy a Disco from (I am looking for a 2-3 year old model, probably petrol) is also welcome. I am based in Zurich but will travel to get the car I want. Also, if there are any special things I should be looking out for, feel free to tell me or point me at the right place to take notes.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice that is offered.
Bigus.

Renting in the UK. I have rented Discos through http://www.shb.co.uk/prestige4x4/index.html. I am sure you will find them helpful.
Good Luck

You could also try Enterprise - I've had a Disco3 from them before as a hire car.

I think Enterprise run the D3 hire cars for LR Assistance, but I didn't think they had any for rental to the public....
I know I asked if they had any available a month or so ago when I was in the UK and the guy laughed at me and offered me a Passat instead 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Quite possible Paul - I had mine as a hire car when my Jaguar was in for service with Jaguar Assistance (and preferred it to the Jag!) - hence why I'm now a Disco driver Rob aka gringle

Just wanted to say thanks for the help and advice offered here by you all. I didn't leave myself enough time in the end to get it all sorted so I flew over to the UK and rented a Range Rover sport instead (its not what I wanted, but close enough to see how I felt about it).
The verdict - I wouldn't want a Range Rover. I do however still want a Discovery. I tried the 4.4 litre supercharged petrol engine (very thirsty) so I would go for the deisel in a Disco.
Now its time to start looking for that good deal
Thanks again all.

Thanks for the feedback - let us know how it went.
On another note, I was in Holland last week and rented a car from Hertz at Schipol Airport (the main airport for Amsterdam). Imagine my surprise when I picked up my hire car (Vectra) only to see about 5 Hertz Discos waiting for hire. I never even thought about it over there.
So, if you are going to Holland and want a Disco, try Hertz.
I will next time if I don't already own one
