Upper Windscreen seal fitting |
|
Hi there,
Our 2015 D4 just shook out its upper windscreen seal strip. We have the strip which looks undamaged. I saw on this site that there was a Service Action Q561 on this issue and our VIN fell into that group. The originating main dealer has told me by phone that our vehicle was checked during a service but was not helpful when I asked if I could just push the seal back into place.
So, have any of you folks refitted a dislodged upper windscreen seal? I have cleaned the slot where it fits and pushed it back in but it doesn't feel very firmly in place. I get the impression from other chats that there is no sealant involved so should I buy a new seal and it will fit tightly?
Anyone have any experience with this please?

Mine came loose a few months ago, nearly myself as I heard a loud banging noise on the roof, I thought someone had thrown a brick at the car to start with..
It had come out on the driver side, about half had come out. I removed at the time, then cleaned and refitted once home..
It hasn't come loose again since, I might go and check it now and see if it's come dislodged again..
If it does I may use a blob of tiger seal when I refit or renew..
Just get it started one side and use a screwdriver handle or similar to push back into place, It should go back as long as there's no bad kinks/ damage to the seal.. Disco4 MY16 SDV6 Landmark Black

Thanks Browny90, that is reassuring.
There was a loud banging on the roof as we were driving, we couldn't work out what was causing it and it wasn't on a road where we could readily pull up. Once we did pull over we could see the seal hanging on by the last inch of so we were able to take it down and drive home. I've pushed it back into place using a rounded-end plastic trim remover. i'll keep an eye on it and if it comes loose again try a small amount of sealant to fix it in place.
I spoke to a non-franchised specialist about it this afternoon, he reckons they should fit snugly if pushed in firmly and if the seal isn't damaged, or old and not as springy as a new one would be. We shall see. Thanks again.

No adhesive strip as far as I understand. I cleaned mine and pushed it firmly back into place over two years ago and it is still there.
