Front N/S Door Replaced!

So many, many months ago one of our "pet" sheep decided to headbutt SWMBO's front near side door and not just once! Then rather frustratingly keeled over and died two weeks later Shocked

Not good:

I've looked at trying to get the dents knocked out but the inner strengthening bar is in the way so it was either a repair or insurance claim neither of which I fancied. So for sometime I have been on the look out for a replacement but Firenze Red is not the easiest to find. And then at the beginning of Lockdown I found one and although it was collection only after a few messages the salvage yard agreed to courier it.

It arrived two days later and turned out to be from a car only built 4 months before ours. I knew it was from a lower spec model so over a couple of days I swapped everything including the door mirror, external handle, wiring loom, the lot! (I had some time on my hands Wink )

Put the donor door on, cleaned and polished the whole car and couldn't be happier 8)

Total cost £185 Whistle

As with any of these jobs next time it would take half as long Whistle

Cheers,

Andy.

Nice. I've got a NS rear door to change. Got the new one ready, just haven't got around to it yet.

Getting the door off was one of the easier bits Whistle

There's a silver nut to undo on the bottom of the top hinge and another on the top of the bottom hinge. Then undo the two black bolts that connect the door restrictor to the car and then lift the door off. It's easier with two people and I had to use some silicon spray to loosen things a bit as at first it wouldn't budge! I found it a lot easier to remove the rectangular rubber cover for the wiring loom, then the plastic cover and disconnect the two plugs after the door had been lifted off its hinges but the door needs supporting underneath as the play in the loom isn't that great to allow the door to rest on the ground.. The two plugs are just inside the car skin and NOT the door. You don't need to remove any panels in the footwell. Thumbs Up

The four bolts to remove are circled in black Wink

Thanks for this explanation! I 've searched for videos on complete door removal and couldn't find one. I was concerned that the door hinges might be like tapper bearings and hellish to pull off. Seems you had some problem at first but that just needed some silicon spray to minimise friction. So I feel more confident now of replacing a door that has a dint. I have the replacement door (OS passenger) arrived by courier 2 days ago and it also needs up-grading with my sound system features. It didn't have the inner panel but has window and lock. I hope they are OK but they seem to look in a new state. Cross that bridge I guess once I fit the door and my interior panel. I notice lots of videos on fixing faulty locks. At least I have my original parts and they are functioning fine. Might be an idea to keep those parts anyway.
