help with fault codes.

Hi there,
I am new to the forum and Discovery 3 ownership, I have previously owned D2s so know about Land Rovers ''quirks'' Laughing but need a little help with this one, if anyone can.

I was driving down the M42 yesterday (by Solihull actually Confused ) when I got a HDC fault and all the yellow lights came on, just like the 3 amigos i used to get on my D2 (made me feel very at home Very Happy ). I pulled over and turned it off and on again, then it was fine and I drove the rest of the way home without incident.

Today I thought I would plug in my scan tool to see if i could figure out what the issue was. There was over 30 codes! Shocked so I took note of them, then cleared them all and went for another drive, then re-scanned it when I got home. This time there was only 9 but all but 2 were different codes than last time. Rolling Eyes
The 2 that re-occurred were:
B0700
P0317
Would anyone happen to know what they mean? I did google them but was unable to find anything Land Rover Related.

Firstly welcome

Secondly what scanner did you use as most generic ones dont work with the D3.
Land rover specific readers supply an extra ending to the codes

Hi, thanks for the welcome.

My scan tool is Nexas, it says it will do Land Rover Diagnostics. I once used it to reset the EPB on a mates RRS. So would assume it would be OK with a D3?

The list of fault codes should have another two digits. A lot of diagnostics will read the codes but only dedicated ones can read them properly you can get an Autel ap200 for around £50

What faults are you finding?

Never heard of it, doubt it will be able to diagnose much to assist you.

Hi,
Thanks for that, I'll have to look into buying one of them. Other than that occurrence of the HDC fault on the motorway, the car has been fine. Just want to figure out what is causing it.

I would reset the codes and see what comes back.

Fault codes can help diagnose faults but there are some strange things that can happen on these vehicles that can cause your problem. Failing battery, faulty brake light switch, steering sensor needs calibrating just to name a few

Unfortunately it looks like Autel are now selling the ap200 as a subscription service where you have to pay an annual fee to use it!

Well looking around it could be loads of different issues causing this. Steering sensor, brake pedal switch, ABS sensors, etc.
its just annoying that the fault codes are so unhelpful.
I managed to find out P0317 means ''Rough road hardware is not present'' what ever that means....
