rear propshaft comments required

afternoon all i'm after some feed back on the quality of the cheaper rear props that are available

back ground story my 2013 d4 has had a very slight vibration for a while now and as i also own a 2005 d3 sort of know what will be coming along service wise, so checked the d4 and sure enough the centre carrier is braking away from the rubber so having replaced the d3 about 7yrs ago with a gkn unit i just ordered a gkn at a cost of £300 (sure i paid half that for the d3)

now you can imagine my delight this afternoon whilst changing the transfer box oil on the d3 looked up to see the rear prop is worse than my d4 so having just spent £300 on the d4 im thinking that another £300 on the d3 makes this a rather expensive week (its only tues)

it looks as though 7 years is the life expectancy of the gkn prop so anyone used a cheaper one and got any feed back on it and as a side note the replacement d3 prop was stamped up as a gkn but just noticed its still got a brit part label on it is this correct ? thanks for any replies
 please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick,thankyou

Out of curiosity to save u getting another complete propshaft is it worth just changing the centre bearing or are the UJ’s gone as well

^^^^^

Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Indeed, just got to the crucial part and his battery ran out , Laughing

Funny enough watched this one the other week and admittedly forgot about them needing to go back in the same place regarding vibration

Also talking about pullers I got these hydraulic ones ages ago, wonder if it would work getting the centre bearing off , alas never done one

i cant say if the uj's are ok as i have not removed it to check but my experience with the d3 a few years ago was when i removed it to change the rear uj was tight and notchy and i do wonder if the uj's failing are the reason the centre bearing gives out. i believe the rear uj cant be changed as they are staked not circliped and as for changing the centre bearing i have read more stories of failed attempts than successes so i would rather change the whole prop

I wondered that regarding the UJ’s and indeed as u say best to replace the entire thing if they’ve gone as well

See island do a GKN complete propshaft for around £330

https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/propshaft-rea...27261.html

Or £310.00

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115135349005?ha...SwkGRhszpH

Plus wondering do u also have to fit new propshaft/ carrier bolts plse , thks

I got mine recently from advance factors. With the club discount it was great value.

our d4 30k miles from new prop failed MOT due to gaitor split on centre bearing..looks like you takes your chances if LR kit fails at this low mileage...common problem
