New Clutch and Flywheel, 2.7tdi manual

Hi, I'm having my (badly slipping) clutch and flywheel replaced, should I replace XY sensor at the same time?
Many thanks in advance,
David

Hi, the XY sensor normally just needs recalibrating after a clutch slip. I changed my crankshaft position sensor when I changed the flywheel. You need Jedi skills to access that from the outside. Why do you think your XY sensor has failed?

Hi, thanks very much for your reply Smile
I don't know that the XY sensor has failed, only that my clutch is slipping v badly and i'm having a new clutch and flywheel installed. The mechanic asked if I wanted my XY sensor replacing at the same time, and I wasn't sure whether to (£240 Inc vat).
Thanks again,
David

Its worth looking at search Manual Gearbox XYZ Sensor Failures

I have just finished a clutch renewal mainly because the DMF was defective.

My D3 is 14 years old so when I had access to the CPS which is behind the DMF I renewed it for a new one as these things do not improve with age.

The DMF also needs 8 new bolts for correct fitting.

Has your mechanic said anything about any fault codes prior to taking the Gbox out?

Personally I would not renew it, unless he broke it taking the box off.

The top XY electrical connector is very hard to see from below.

As an option you could get the complete Gbox with XY sensor for £150

Hi, he hasn't got the vehicle yet so he hasn't read any fault codes.

I had the park brake auto release warning a few weeks ago and reconfigured my XY sensor, which fixed it. Same happened again but reconfig' wouldn't work, clutch then started slipping every gear and wouldn't stall, in any gear, with engine running when stationary (foot off clutch).

Described to mechanic and he suggested most likely clutch / DMF, so booked in to do that work tomorrow.

Many thanks again.

Your mechanic is saying the right things. The clutch slipping will throw the calibration out on the XY sensor.

Here is a link for the CPS.
