Parking sensor fault - sensor or harness |
|
I have had a parking sensor fault for some time. Read the codes and it was the Rear Right Inner sensor B1B46 on Hawkeye.
Ordered a sensor, went to double check which one I need to replace and now I also have the Rear Left Outer B1B48 flagged.
I assume its just bad luck that I now have two sensors gone? Is it likely to just be the sensors or is the harness a known fault and likely to cause this? Rear left Inner and Rear Right Outer dont flag a fault code.
I wont pull the bumper off until I have another sensor if thats whats needed.

So being curious, I pulled the bumper. New sensor doesnt click at all when replacing the rear right inner and rear left outer. It does click if I replace it with one of the other two (which also click when in reverse). So it looks like it is the loom!

And looking closely there are some very obvious breaks in the loom to the two sensors throwing a fault. I am going to try repairing them for now. It looks like they have rubbed on the bumper. What a silly design to make these little wires so unprotected and vulnerable.

Fixed. Two wires needed repairs.

Brown on the far left and green on the inner right (I think - all back together now so cant check). I used those solder heatshrink things you can buy. Had some fairly tiny ones. Not ideal but had continuity afterwards and they dont really carry a current. All working now and no fault codes.
