Checker plate tailgate?
Evening guys and girls.
Has anyone checker plated over the carpet on the tailgate to make a more robust standing area?
I appreciate the issues with the sliding carpeted piece.
I have to regularly collect 47 kg gas bottles and the tailgate is getting a bit of a bashing.
Cheers all
Myke.

Hatchbag used to sell the tailgate cover as a separate item.

I've got dog crates so to stop them getting the carpet muddy, I use rubber matting that's thin and rolls up easily. It's about £15 for a 1m x 1.5m roll. I've cut it to shape the lower boot and I'm still on my first piece 2 years later. 8) It goes over the sliding bit so doesn't catch.
I’ve got one but it’s worn through on the leading edge as this is wear the 47kg gas bottle sits before sliding in, so I need a stronger option.
Thanks though 👍🏻

I see. Maybe a homemade version from tougher material. Thin aluminium plate might well work. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I have checker plate on the tailgate.
Was like that when I got it, but it's a commercial.
No reason not to fit it over or in place of your carpet.

I use a piece of pond liner plastic cut to shape and held in place with broad Gaffer tape, it’s been on about 3 years now. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I’ve tried quite a few things but the gas bottles just cut through most things when I slide them in.

I use a small car trailer for that job, far easier to load and unload and probably cheaper than alloy checker plate. .It can when others can't,

They’re 47kgs so I’d need a large trailer.
I’ve got 1/2 a sheet of alloy checker plate in the garage so I think I’ll make one. The heavy duty rubber mat idea is a good one and not one I’d thought of.
