dashboard and sat nav lights then fails but car works ? |
|
hi all, I'm an old girl here not posted for years ! need some help ... we have a discovery 2017 first edition TD6... all been good until this weekend. car started fine, then sat nav etc console failed and then dash with speedo etc. engine ran fine. did a few little journeys, was a little slow to start a couple of times, ll controls failed but indicators working etc , auto lights and soon.
Took on a longer journey yesterday but failed to start after a couple of starts and a 60 miles first drive. Jump started by recovery company. Im wondering if its a wiring problem, breakdown guy was wondering if its alternator ? anyone else got any experience of this and can give me any pointers ? really want to avoid a main dealer but may need to give a local garage some pointers ! thank you all

I'm a little confused by what car you have (profile says it's a D3, so not a 2017 car ! ) but worth having a look at the earth straps. a good test is, when it won't start, connect a jump-lead between the battery negative and the engine. if it starts, it's an earth strap fault. .

You need to get the codes from the person using the code reader and post them here so the Techies can hopefully give you some guidance

Clear the codes, charge your battery, take the motor for a good run of at least 50 miles, dont use lots of electrical items (blower, heated seats etc) and then read the codes again to see what comes back
may be worth changing the battery if not holding a charge, kwik fit et all will do a battery check for you, if its on its way out don't buy a new one from them go somewhere else
