I’d go with the raptor mounts or similar. I’m looking at doing the same and the number plate bar sticks out too much for my liking, could also be accused of trying to hide the numberplate from overhead speed camera
hoping to spend some time on the car next week to sort cable routing and fixings out so I can order the parts, one thought was to measure the forward hang needed to get through the grill and maybe drop down to b&q and get something like this
when fitting the light bar, just make sure you install a connector in the power feed just behind the grill, rather than permanently attach the light bar cable to your feed, otherwise you’ll end up needing to cut it every time you take the grill off:)2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

just dont go number plate light holder - it will be looser than the raptor mount and with led's it really shows if you have any vibratioin as the light wobbles around.

I also chose to mount it behind the grill - a little modification in terms of cutting some of the lower 'uprights' in the grill and trimming some of the rear plastic but it is totally secure and looks subtle.

I did similar, although bought the wrong light bar width, should have bought a 29 or 28" and ended up with a 30". Doesn't allow it to sit back as much as I wanted, so had to cut more of the grill than I wanted. In hindsight I'd go for a 29/28" one and fabricate some simple brackets to hold.RLD CB Bracket

Have you got any pics of that mounted please @dgarside? and any advice about the fitting behind the grille.
I still need to mount the light bar that I used to have on my D3 now onto my D4 and it sounds like a similar size.formerly Disco3Ben

From memory it was 90W. I would go for the '6D' labelled ones as they seem to have more of a lense to focus. It is more of a spot beam than a flood that I wanted - to enhance the high beams.
Works well and I just wasn't in mood to spend big bucks on the Lazers

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I went with the lazer lamps mounts and the 6d light bar which I believe is the same as Dave JBL's one.
Its mounted now and wired to come on with the headlights (but must have the switch on also).
Last thing to do is route the cabling into the cab so that the switch is easily accessed.
Any advice
on a cable route would be welcome

Hello DaveJLBI.
Are you still happy with your lightbar? I'm considering the same as I don't like either the price or the appearance of the Lazer Triple R although I understand the performance is superb. I would much prefer to mount the lightbar behind the grill as you have done.
Any comments would be very useful and much appreciated.

Yes I am happy, gives a good forward beam. I also have a larger 32 curved one that I can fit with a larger cut to the grill but at this stage, am happy with the infill I get from the current more discrete one.
As noted above, I went for more of spot beam than the flood you get with the larger / cheaper light bars. The big bright flood ones are brilliant for driving at about 30 mph along back roads and light up everything in the very near field of your sight but problem is that it is too bright and you do not have the long view that would be needed if you are travelling any faster.
That is why I stick with the spot version I have which leaves the normal xenon high beam to do its job (only so so as noted many times here) but then you have the spot which throws the light to the distance.
