I have an 05 TDV6 manual in which even from new I used to average about 28mpg. Ididn't think this was too bad considering the type of roads we have in the Lake district. On a long run I could even get just over 30mpg with a good few motorway miles included.
For the last few months I have struggled to average much more than 23mpg. Even if I drive like my dad I can't get more than 26 and a bit.
Mileage is now 49k and there has been no noticeable change in performance. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Recently (within the last 7-10 days) there was a thread on here regarding fuel additivs for cleaning the injectors. I can't remember the name of the stuff and I can't find the thread....maybe someone else can point Cumbrian Col in the right direction.
I'm sure the thread said that original fuel comsupmtion figures had been restored after using the stuff. Too much intellectual firepower can damage your common sense.

Check for binding rear breaks - mine were doing this and so were JMC's. MPG improved when this was fixed.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have roof bars but they have been on since new. No different tyres. One of the rear brakes was binding a bit recently but new pads have sorted that with no noticeable improvement in fuel consumption. I will give the fuel additive a go though James R. With diesel at £1.18 per litre locally every little helps (as the saying goes).

I only average 21 MPG I drive at normal road speeds most of my driving done on A roads.
having my brakes done on Thursday so we will see if that improves anything. Don't think my brakes are sticking! it seems to roll on the slightest slope so not sure why my consumption is bad?

I've just averaged 20mpg towing a 1550kg caravan with 4 bikes mounted on the roof and boot full of kit, which judging by the above posts is quite good

Not sure about the EPB. It seems to freewheel OK. Going for an MOT on Monday so I will get them to check it out.
