Autel test
Am I just being thick or can the autel ap200 now run test routine on the fbh.
I had the code pop up as intermittent flame and going thru the diag menu I was able to run a 3 run test where it fired up and shut down... Test completed, no errors.
I didn't think it could do that previously.
I'm wondering if there has been a software update as the service menu seems to have extras??

This sounds like something to have a look at on an overcast Saturday afternoon! I’ll make sure my app is up to date, go and have a play and report back.
I’d like to know that my FBH is working before I order a remote starter fob kit for it so this sounds just the ticket! I’m guessing you can run the test when the temperature is over the usual FBH trigger temperature? It’s about 10c here today. Waiting on those cold mornings, can’t be long now!D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey

Many happy customers on here with these remote kits
the price could drop before winter so don’t buy too early.
They were about £55 at one point! Doubt they will get that cheap again.
At £100 other options are probably better

That’s the one sitting in my basket!
No sign of a test function on my AP200 though. Might grab the remote anyway, I can see the module in diagnostics and see it’s live data (currently it’s all off because it’s too warm) so it is at least present and connected, and has worked at some time in the past!
The start count (44,000) and burn time (358 hours) seem excessive though D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey

That's only 22 hours a year, which could be 22, 1Hr morning drives.
They never really shut off on cold mornings, until the engine is shut down.
There are 2 temperature modes though. High/Low

Now I see where you live, I'm not surprised your keen to buy one
Have you tested your glowplugs work ?
You can just measure the resistance between ground and the green wires ontop of the engine (on the brown/black plugs).
Should be 1R if ok.
Fear not, there is a work around if they are no good

It's definitely there as long as you have a readable fault..
Number 12.. Although mines clear.. It brought up a few faults.. I hit the exclamation icon on the left and it gave me a couple of tests to run.. Whi h it did then cleared the fault.
2nd pic is some air con faults on next code but its the same blue exclamation marks..
They seem to do things on some errors..

PeteK - Solid maths that! Beyond my sleep deprived brain. Seems very reasonable actually
I could test the glow plugs now and I’ll have 6x perfect glow plugs. But the things are my curse. Come the first frost (can’t be more than a few weeks away now), some or all will be gone. Hence the need for firing up a diesel heater from 50 yards
I don’t know why, they don’t like me. Previous Audi had 1/6 working and there are horror stories of losing a carbonned tip in that engine, so it lived being a starter in winter.
Current Insignia has 0/4 and they’re magic (read: expensive) pressure sensor tipped at £94 EACH. But also has a massively oversized battery (stop/start, which doesn’t work because no glow plug pressure sensors…) and lives next to the house so doesn’t freeze as hard.
Maybe I should join the petrol squad….
Doughboy - I’m guessing either the Android/iPhone apps work slightly differently, or it needs to have a fault to trigger the test function? Who knows! It’s not in my service menu alongside suspension calibration etc. Maybe the update is awaiting Apple verification….
Haven’t found one of those exclamation marks that does anything yet, though some come up with useful tips! What might be broken etc. A list of possibilities etc.
Liking the tool so far. It’s even diagnosed a fault on said insignia that the local Vauxhall garage couldn’t diagnose (and charged me £75 for not diagnosing it…)D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey

I did notice on the service menu it does abs.. On the vauxhalls to do abs bleeding properly, I think the gm tech2 was the only one years ago that could properly open the abs valves... If the autel can do that in that function, it'll show how good it is

When I need to, I’ll let you know. But currently, all is well on the wet side of the brakes. And with new discs and pads all round a few weeks back, I hopefully wont need to get about them for a while!D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey

Disco glow plugs like to break on removal. The items themselves are not expensive. It’s the labour.
Some people with failed glowplugs rig up a resistor and push button on the dash for an instant start.

Snapped tips are the fear! Same as the old Audi. Though given how clean the tip of the recently removed injector was, I’ll remain optimistic about it! The remote FBH should be my workaround for dud glow plugs in the meantime, until I leave it low on fuel….
Luckily I also have the Insignia if I do need to get elbow deep seeking a lost tip. And it’ll be useable this winter once I’ve fixed the AWD fault that the Autel kindly diagnosed for me. And fixed it for far less than £5k the clueless garage quoted for a whole new Haldex unit… Possibly 15 minutes (including tea break) with 1x spanner, once I’ve made friends with the owner of a lift D4 XS Commercial - MY16 - Corris Grey
