6hrs later, home in Yarm.
1600-1800 rpm was the magic number, which fortunately equates to about 70 on the flat. Using Command Shift to change up early when setting off was key. As was running with the Autel connected for on the fly code clearing on the hills.

Diagnosis confirmed by the excellent NorthEast 4x4 today, and miraculously, booked in to be done next Monday. I decided it would probably make sense to replace both sides with the updated part, while it is all apart anyway.
What other preventative replacements should I be thinking about while they're in there?

Eh, it was a bit of stress I could have done without, but ultimately we coped with it. Thanks to all here for the info and advice, which contributed significantly to my peace of mind on Saturday.

How long since you had your timing belt changed, as I seem to remember the cover has to come off to get the Inlets off, so probably not a huge amount more labour to do the front belt Must stop buying shiny toys....

Pleased you made it back in one piece. I’ve coincidentally picked up the very same fault on my MY13 D4. I too purchased an Autel reader and having cleared everything, the P006A-00 manifold pressure message returned very quickly. The engine is going into Restricted Performance after 15 minutes or so.
I was going to clean the MAF sensors. Went to Euro Car Parts to pick up some cleaner and the guy there basically read me the riot act saying it was a load of tosh as you can’t clean a heated wire. Even if they did have any cleaner, he certainly wasn’t going to sell me any.
I was just wondering what the diagnosis was for yours in the end and whether cleaning the MAF sensors made any difference?
Cheers
Justin

I had this. Claiming the MAF was a waste of time. Get a smoke test done. I suspect it’s the manifold. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

Just spoke to a mechanic mate who said go run it at 2500rpm for half an hour. Fault hasn’t reoccurred yet. Turbos feel more ‘open’ perhaps - still feels like it’s got a slight knock / misfire.
I will report further.

I cleaned the MAP, not the MAF. MAP is the one that sits in the V of the air distribution chamber on top of the engine. It wasn't that gunked up and cleaning it did nothing. ECP was right to warn you about the MAF's although they seem to vary a lot. VW ones are very sensitive to mis-handling and will puke if you look at them a bit squinty (at least mine always did).
