Autobox
F failure only in reverse.
Occasionally I get the dreaded F come up on the dash but switch off the engine then restart all is OK.
This happen say for instance when meeting oncoming traffic on a narrow lane ,I stop quite quickly select reverse then the F comes up,stop the engine restart all is OK, this is the only time it ever happens,I can live with it but sometimes I don't notice if untill I pull away and have to drive in reduced speed to get next pull over in the lane and traffic behind gets the hump with me for driving so slow.
If I come to a complete standstill wait a second or two before I select reverse all is OK well for 90% of the time.
Is there an adjustment on the side of the gearbox to alleviate this problem, I am a bit reluctant to dabble with gearbox adjustment as everything else is tickety boo but if the actuator needs a slight tweek or something along those lines needs adjustment please guide me
Thankspete truckle

I would also check the electrical connector on the side of the box and also check or replace the gearbox oilAndrew

Hi
Going to look at and change the lever and Bush on the automatic box as seen with the link you posted ,just a silly question I will be using front ramps with adjustable height on them, will this affect the actuator cable adjustment once removed ,I will mark it as described but a tad concerned that being so high on the front end this may affect the adjustment.
I personally don't think it will matter but better to be safe and ask someone.

Hi
Update
Just fitted the new complete assemble every thing works as it should, only annoying thing was the hole in the lock screw was not big enough, when your are under the the car it's a pain when things don't quite fit, still with a round file all was sorted a couple of burs were filed off.
Checked the wires and switch whilst there all looked good.
This may stop the occasional F appearing time will see
My removed linkage was in good condition and no seized parts i
will clean the parts up and if anyone wants them I will post out to you free of charge just make a donation of your choosing to the forum.
Thanks allpete truckle

Hi, mine had a linkage fault. the linage looked fine, not red rust and had "most" of its movement but must have been binding or dragging as it never played up again after I swapped it (Having spent motnhs worrying about the gearbox!)Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

When it's done now and seems ok and we'll greased up so the next time it ever needs a visit it should be rust free

The rod holding nut is free and turns easily but will not come out as the the flanges have been splayed.
Will keep hold of it unless as said anyone wants it .
Thank
