Disco 4 2011 stuck after battery disconnection..

Hello everybody,

I had a non blocking issue with my 2011 D4 last week (p181d fault - clutch actuator ... seen on my IID Tool).
To try to solve it, I removed the battery and unplugged/plug the 2 ECU connectors behind the battery - just wanted to check if the connectors are clean...)
Now, disco is stuck ! (many defaults : EDB, engine, break, suspension, etc...) impossible to start !!
I cleaned the defaults codes via the IID Tolls but they come back immediately.

Battery is new and full; all connectors are ok.
Any idea how to solve this and even start it

Thanks.
JM

ok ... golden rule is if you touched something and it's now broken, go back and check what you touched.

Might be worth trying a hard-reset too.

open bonnet and let car go to sleep

disconnect +ve and -ve cables from the battery and short the ends of the cables together for 30 seconds.

reconnect battery and see if it's cleared the faults.

Hello Hardware,

Thanks for your reply but I have already tried these steps.
I also tried a car reset without success...
All faults are coming again when ignition is on.
Very strange as I finally did not touch anything...

ok.

loads of new faults usually means another underlying fault is the cause.

if you're confident battery is healthy, have a look at the earth straps ... battery/body/engine.

There have been a notable number of threads of late where these are at least part of the issue.

Simple check would be use a jump-lead and connect the engine to the battery -ve.

If faults clear - or even if they only change - then you're on the right path.

I just tried a cable jump between battery - and engine and body... no change, always a full list of faults and impossible to start Mad
Nevertheless your diagnose sounds logical!
I will remove the battery again this week end and check all earth straps I can see/check.
Thanks for your help. I will keep you and the community posted.

Was the car asleep with the park brake light off, doors closed, bonnet switch bridged before you disconnected anything?- if not that is your problem.

I can not remember but surely not ! (was not aware of this procedure).

By the way, I just finished removing the battery again to check one more time all connections and earth straps... everything is ok and battery is new and fully loaded !
Problem is still there: a lots of faults detected when ignition on and impossible to start...

If the problem comes from the non respect of procedure you mentioned : any idea on how to solve it?

Thanks
JM

First thing is to get the fault codes read, without them it’s anybody’s guess.

Here are the faults I have (read via IID Tool)

U012-00 Lost communication with ABS control module
B1B01-87 Key transponder - Bus signal/message failure
B108B-23 Start button circuit A - general signal failure - signal stays low
B108C-23 Start button circuit B - general signal failure - signal stays low
C1B14-11 Sensor supply 1 - General electrical failure - circuit short to ground
U3002-81 Vehicule identification number - Bus signal/message failure - invalid data received
U0128-00 lost communication with parking brake control module
U0416-68 Invalid data received from vehicle dynamics control module - algorithm based failure
U0415-68 Invalid data received from ABS control module
U0122-87 lost communication with vehicle dynamics control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
U0122-00 lost communication with vehicle dynamic control module

Dashboard is off course showing less details: default urgent brake, default stability, default EDB, default engine,...

Check the ecu connectors for bent or damaged pins, check rear brake light bulbs, change brake light switch- it is more than a switch and can cause numerous problems but I think the problem may have been caused by disconnecting the battery without the car being in sleep mode.

Do you have more than one key for the car? If so have you tried both/all keys?

The transponder code makes me think that the chip in the key is not talking to the car... just a thought and it eliminates another possible cause Very Happy

I have checked connectors, rear brake bulbs: everything is clean and like new ! I also spray some electrical cleaner et let it dry before reconnect. Brake switch seems to be ok but I don't have a spare part to check...
I even tried my 2nd key... No success Sad

Then I contacted my LR dealer: they can investigate next week but I will need a tow truck. Big Cry

Brake light switches are only £10-£15 it's got yo be worth a shot, I carry a spare after having one fail with all sort of fault messages
