Someone Else's Project
Hi all, I've been stalking the forum for a while now so figured I should say hi and introduce myself. I recently sold my Disco sport for a 2013 Discovery 4. Love the 4 but I think I may have bought someone else's project! Not all bad but not what I thought. Here's why:
- It's badged as a Landmark but has many of the Landmark features missing such as RSE. Recent research has shown it's an HSE.
- It's got the MY14 front bumper, headlight's and rear lights upgraded. But not set up correctly as it didn't flash high beams if the lights were off. £400 on a Gap IID Tool and a lot of research on this forum
has now resolved that issues but the signature lights don't dim when I indicate so still working through that one.
- It has the "turbine" style allows in black from a RR Sport I believe, but also 255/50/R22 tyres which I think are too big for the car. The seem to rub on full lock in access height.
There's a number of other minor glitches' with it but all in all I am super happy with it. I've had a number of Discos before including a '91 3.9V8 and a Discovery 3 but the 4 is all I'd hoped it would be. Just a shame the one I purchased isn't quite as advertised.
Looking forward to contributing on here.
Cheers

little problems aside thats a very nice looking D4, the facelift bumper, wing mirrors, headlights, and rear lights will have cost a tidy sum (if they have been done properly) and the wheels wont have been cheap either. It appears to have parallel parking sensors or cameras in the outer side of the front bumper ??
Stick with it, youve a very nice and desirable looking motor there 2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Thanks! The bumper that's fitted appears to have come from a vehicle with the surround cameras but they are not connected in mine. I don't think the car has a camera module fitted....maybe a future project for me.

Thanks, yeah I'm not sure I'm a fan either. I'd prefer the Landmark diamond cut black and silver ones if I'm honest.

Welcome….It looks very nice! I have made my 2014 commercial look just like this…. I only went 20” wheels though as I wanted to maintain the sidewall. I’m sure you could sell the 22’s easily if you decide to go that way. I think my 20’s would probably rub on full lock in access height too!
I have added everything possible with my IID tool, but didn’t go with the signature LED as they aren’t for me so can’t help with that one.
I am working through cameras now, so if you take the plunge please share what you find.
Enjoy the Disco and safe driving.A mod a week until I have nothing to improve or add.

Nice looking car! and another (as Moo said) for losing the larger wheels... try advertising them on rrsport.com (sister site to here) when you do want to change..
and now it's YOUR project I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

I hope you've not paid MY14 Landmark money for a MY13 HSE
Biggest differences that I can see from pics are
MY14 is start / stop so lots cheaper on duty than your MY13
Landmark has full leather dash and binnacle - this is one of the nicest things about about it
As you said no RSE either
Do you have a fridge? That would have been std. on a landmark
Heated Steering Wheel (easy upgrade)
As m3boddy mentions if you have camera's in wing mirrors then that upgrade should be straight forward but the wiring will have been altered already to get the MY14 on there anyway.

Thanks for the notes, did a lot of research and looks like a paid HSE money considering speck and mileage so I'm happy there.
Doesn't have the fridge which I'd consider adding if I can get a cheap one somewhere and unfortunately it doesn't have the wing mirror cams. I've seen the leather binnacle and it really finishes of the look I think, shame I don't have it. I think I'm missing the high line audio too which I would have expected on the HSE.
But those wheels are my bugbear...too big and hideous tyres....so I'm on the lookout for a replacement set.

My D4 is a 2016 Landmark and it also does not have a cubby fridge, so not a standard Landmark item after all,Gone 2016 Landmark D4
Current 2015 HSE D4 - AKA - 'Gandalf the Grey'
