Vavle Body separator plate for 05 V8 D3 trans, which one ?

Hello dear forumists,

I am looking to refurbish myself my transmission valvebody. I am driving a 2005 V8 D3 and i'm wondering if there any way of knowing which separator plate goes into my transmission, without opening the transmission to check because I need my car everyday and can't afford having it stranded the time I received the correct plate.

I was guessing A52/B52 1st GEN for 6hp26x. I there a way I can get it via the serial number of my transmission engraved on the outside part of the transmission itself ?

Thank you for your help !

you're the man everytime Pete 8)

I will open my valvebody to clean it up and need the separator plate in between the two part, that plate has silicon gasket embodied in it and has a lot of different variation according to your trans serial number therefore I need the correct one BEFORE opening my gearbox.

Gearbox has serial n° 1068 020044

plate looks like that Pete :

Oh, that.

Sorry I don't know.

You should also order the 4 rubber tubes and squared seal

thank you Gstuart !

The thing with the photo you posted last is that to get to this engraved number on my plate (separator plate), I need to open the gearbox and remove the valve body. I don't want to do that because I need my vehicule as a daily.

The number I posted (1068 020044) is the number engraved on my gearbox on the casing. I wanted to know if there was a way of knowing which plate goes inside, without opening my gearbox, knowing my serial number only.

You wont know until you have the valve body apart as to which plate you need.

Ur so welcome

Would u be able to do it over a weekend , in removing the sump plate, get the valve block out, noting the number , then put it back on, refilling the oil so u can carry on using the disco until new parts arrive

Or maybe calling them to see if they can advise further as maybe they might allow u to buy several plates which they think should fit and return ones that aren’t required

Know that’s not much help but really the only thing I can think of

I've got a ZF specialist on the phone and he said I must open the pan and check the number on the plate before ordering the right plate, its the only way to know which plate will be the correct one.

He also told me he knows very well the 6hp26X and in 90% of the case the electronic part of the valve body is the culprit, I might let the guy make a diagnostic, took an appointment with him in 2 weeks. will be 2000€ and around but in the case there's something bad insight, at least they have the expertise to recognize it, I don't. 2 ground for a refurbished gearbox after 280'000 km on the clock I think its pretty fair.

If he tells me its a few solenoids and some joints, I'll do it myself tho.

What problems are you having ?

I fitted new solenoids and 4 rubber tubes etc and it made no difference

Pete, whats the mileage on your box and have you replaced anything else ?

I did steel pan and filter, tube seals and bridge seals and mech sleeve @ 200k klms and it made little difference so will be replacing solenoids and ftting a sonnax zip kit with new separator plate.

sorry Pete, I was away for few days.

My problems are :
- lag between selection of gear, for example when I go from D to R, it take at least 3 seconds to engage, if i accelerate between these 3 seconds, the gearbox goes into Fault mode and slips.
- bumps between 2 and 3rd and sometimes 2nd ans 1st.
- and finally, when I'm in reverse, should a rock or something block the wheel and I accelerate to go over this obstacle and therefore force on the gearbox, it goes into Fault mode.

I took the decision to visit a specialist next tuesday, he's gonna make an deep examination of the gearbox and try the car then let me know what should be done on it. From there I'll either order the part myself and do the job myself, or let him do it, which would make more sense as I could easily miss something important while doing it myself.

I'll let you guys know anyway Wink
