Bother not to bother
Wanted to buy extended warranty on my 2015 D4 but seems pointless, the warranty companys have more get out clauses than inclusions and LR want £1300 a year?

Ouch. Added an extended Mitsubishi warranty for year 6 on my PHEV. Cost £350

Not only do LR want £1300, but they will also need you to have it serviced via an LR Approved route, so add another several hundred to that bill
I stopped buying an additional warranty 4 years ago (MY2013) and put aside the warranty money (£1k a year) to look after the old girl and I am still in the 'black'. Always a gamble of course, but £1300 buys you a lot of help from a decent Indie.

Just remember that the LR one excludes the crank due to it being a design defect, and looks like Warranty Wise are doing the same. Unfortunately Warranty Direct no longer offer new policies to the public. Tough choices for peeps.

still think its ludicrous that LR admit there is a problem with the crank which is their fault but wont include it in their own warranty and will only rarely pay out if one fails.
IITC they did similar with the early TD5 D2 with the fitment of a plastic bolt that would fail resulting in oil pump failure and toast the engine, they refused to admit responsibility then as well but changed the part to a an aluminium(?) one in later years.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Thinking I won't bother, as I see it your under there rule for nothing, may just sell up now

£1300 ? I thought that includes L/R assist as well.

In the same boat as you 2 years ago. The LR warranty does not cover the crank. I opted for Warranty direct at £1700 for 3 years. This week it paid without quibble for a new rear propshaft and new transmission control module at well over £1000. No brainer for me.

Warranty Direct are now offering new policies direct to the public. They are under new ownership, so it’s in question if they are as good as they were.

Good to know. Interesting to hear people’s experience. I’ve got about 8k miles or 10 month left on my policy, then it expires or I have to try to renew.
I will be at 130k then, so I expect my options will be limited!

M6 steel bolt which held the oil pump drive sprocket on was fitted with no loctite this then worked loose and fell out causing loads of damage, add in the plastic head locating dowels and it was all a bit disastrous, but many years later the TD5 is still going strong and some have massive miles on them, crank does not snap/shells do not spin!
Lots of people swear by the td5, but I always found it lacking in power with a manual transmission, and the 4 speed auto was just rubbish.

knew it was something plastic or similar, just remember the fuss about dropping its oil and ceasing up but LR didn't admit liability. Of the ones still going I wonder how many have had those parts upgraded
I never drove a manual TD5 (other than my brothers defender) but my Auto D2 TD5 was really nice once it had an Ashcroft recon box fitted. Unfortunately I didn't get to enjoy it for long as it was sabotaged on my drive so I moved it on.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten
