Anyone understand the speed rating on tyres?
I bought two trailer wheels and tyres from e bay. As advertised 145/80R10, what I got was 145/80B10
So I think I have been had and that a B rating is only good for 31mph. Where as an R is good for 108 mph. Granted that I wont be needing the full capability of an R I am sure that I will need a bit more than 31mph.
These are the only markings I can find in the tyres and in the load index it has a B.
Have I read this correctly?
Thanks

No, the B is for 'Bias Ply'. The speed/load rating is the 74N - 87mph, 387kg max load Richard

The letter in the tyre size is nothing to do with the load and speed rating. No letter is cross ply construction, B is bias ply and R is radial ply.
My 1955 Land Rover came with 6.50 x 16 tyres, which were cross ply, I now use 6.50R x 16 , Radials.

Ply
Can a Bias ply run on the same axle as a Radial ply? I am thinking not but I would like to confirm. ThanksDiscovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂

For a D3 I think your insurance company would disagree.
And NO, I wouldn't mix tyre construction on the same vehicle, never mind same axle....... always on the road less travelled 🚧

Thanks
Thanks for clarifying the ply mix. It is for a trailer so that why it tops out at 60mph. I am sending them back. The ebay tyre place was a bit shirty over it, all the adverts said it was a 145/80R10 and what I got was a B10Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂
