Discovery 3 starts then cut out all allone.

Hello everyone.

I post here the problem of my Discovery 3 (10/2004 with 238916 km).

It only starts when it's cold (at below 5°C). When started, the engine runs for 4-5 minutes and then cuts out. If I want to restart it, it won't.
Below, the faults:

Body Control

B1B69-16 - 12 volt supply circuit - General electrical failure - circuit voltage below threshold (2A)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:34 at 238908 km )

B1C09-73 - Driver's left/right mirror motor circuit - Mechanical failure - actuator is stuck closed (2B)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:06 at 238908 km )

B1C10-73 - Driver's up/down mirror motor circuit - Mechanical failure - actuator is stuck closed (2B)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:06 at 238908 km )

B1C26-3A - Pedal motor feedback circuit - Frequency modulation/pulse width modulation failure - incorrect, has too many pulses (2B)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:06 at 238908 km )

B1C32-13 - Steering column tilt solenoid - General electrical failure - circuit open (2B)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:06 at 238908 km )

B1C34-13 - Steering column telescope solenoid - General electrical failure - circuit open (2B)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:06 at 238908 km )

Parking Brake

U0100-87 - Lost communication with engine control module/powertrain control module 'A' - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message (EB)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:35 at 238916 km )

Transmission

U0401-86 - Invalid data received from engine control module/powertrain control module - Bus signal/message failure - signal is invalid (AB)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:35 at 238916 km )

Vehicle Dynamics

U0401-68 - Invalid data received from engine control module/powertrain control module - Algorithm based failure - event information (0B)
( on 01-31-2027 04:42:34 at 238916 )

For the "Body Control" faults, I know these problems, they follow me forever.
But the "Parking Brake", "Transmission" and "Vehicle Dynamic", they appear every time the engine doesn't want to start.
The engine will only start when it has cooled down.

The low pressure pump in the tank and the diesel filter are new.
The high pressure pump is remanufactured by me (VCV, PCV and kit seals are new).

Any idea where my problem comes from Confused ?

Have you checked the oil temp sensor in the sump. and waht is OAT sensor showing, You can ignore the U codes as these are cascaded fault codes.

Flack Thumbs Up

Hello Flack and thank you for your fast answer.

Thank you for your information about the U codes (I didn't know, I think it's very important to know that).
I think my oil temp sensor is ok, when I check the temps sensors of the engine, I see this:

After when I've check the same temperature the last wednesday with 20°C (follow the weather report and my outdoor thermometer of my house), I see this (I specify, the engine didn't start and doesn't want to start):

For information, I've disconnect all sensors temperature for to know where is everyone:
- Sensor of "Boost air temperature", I know where it's.
- Sensor of "Coolant temperature", I know where it's.
- Sensor of "Engine oil temperature", I know where it's.
- Sensor of "Fuel rail temp before FMEM substitution" (or Diesel temp) temperature, I know where it's.
- Sensor of "Intake air temperature", I know where it's.
- Sensor of "Internal electronic control unit temperature", I think is in the ECU box?
- Sensor of "Supplementary engine coolant temperature", I think there is none on my vehicle, it is only for very hot or very cold countries, right?
But I don't know where is the sensor "Ambiant temperature"! I've find a sensor front of cooling radiator (behind the front bumper), it's this?:

So, when I disconnect this sensor, the display on my phone (from IIDTools) don't change! I haven't a "N/A" instead of "5°C"!

Do you anderstand what I want to say?

I wonder where is the "Ambient Temperature" sensor?

Thank you for your help.

This morning it was 3°C, and my D3 started, then cut out after 3-4 minutes. After, it didn't want to start again.
My wife tried again 1 hour later (still 3°C outside), it started and cut out again after 2-3 minutes.
At the end of this afternoon it was 10°C outside and it started ( Shocked surprise!!! before it's only started below 5°C!) and stopped after 2-3 minutes...
I don't know where to search Big Cry .

This morning, my D3 started. I wanted to move it to park it somewhere else (I need to have space) and when it leaned to the left, the engine cut out and since then it's not possible to restart it.
The engine have turn only 30 seconds not more!!!

In the top post of the sensor reading's, the very bottom left is reading -40, if this is the oil temp { I cant see the image fully } then its failed.

Hello Flack

Crying or Very sad no, this value (-40°C) is the sensor of "Supplementary engine coolant temperature", I think there is none on my vehicle, it is only for very hot or very cold countries.
The engine oil temperature is 18°C on the screenshoot.

Hello everyone!

I hope you are well?
I made a video when the problem occurs, with outside temperature of 9°C, cold engine.
The engine cut out at time 3:06 :

Have you checked the condition of the vehicles battery? When these start to fail they throw up all sorts of faults

Problem solved

Hello everyone!

I'm back to let you know that I managed to solve my problem!
Here's my feedback.

3 or 4 years ago I had to replace the crankshaft position sensor (a previous mechanic had reinstalled it without putting back the plastic centring device to prevent the wires from touching the engine block and making a ground).
I reinstalled a BRITPART crankshaft position sensor, a brand not to be bought for electronic parts, beware !!!!
This sensor worked for about 2 years and during these 2 years I always had this error code:
"P0336-00 (6C) Crankshaft position sensor A circuit range/power".
This leads me to believe that the sensor is giving values that are not exactly what the engine ECU should be expecting in return from the sensor, but enough to keep the engine running more or less normally.
I got used to this error code and one day the sensor gave up.

So I fitted a BOSCH sensor, reference 0 986 280 437 (thanks to LR Time for their tests: https://www.youtube.com/@Vera_and_Christian/videos).

I hope this will help the Land Rover community and maybe others.

Kind regards.
