Sudden loss of power suspect EGR valves? |
|
Hi
Today I noticed that my D3 was struggling to get off the driveway. I've searched the board and I'm somewhat confused now, since my D3 is a MY 08 I assume that I'll need the software patch to delete the EGRs when I've blanked them.
My confusion is, when? When should this be done? Before or after the blank of the EGRs?
Also do I need to buy https://bellautoservices.co.uk/store/disco...-road-use/ in order to 'delete' the EGRs from the ECU?
Thanks.

Hi Drakx
Doesn’t matter if you do it before or after, I had mine deleted on the software then drove home and did the physical deletion. Personally, unless you know what you’re doing, best to have someone do the software for you, either a indie, or company that does then regular. You’ll buy the patch and it will be built based on your vehicles serial number, but there no beating someone being onsite to tweet it as they go, your vehicle has had a lot of years wear since it left the factory 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

What fault codes do you get? Do they point to EGR problems? If so, disabling the EGRs may be too late, they need to be in working order when the software patch is installed or more faults may follow.

Not sure about that, I did mine because my drivers side egr was throwing errors, engine management light, and not letting the car go over 1500rpm on start up, felt like I was trying to tow the house when I tried reversing off the drive, kept having to blow it out by going foot the the floor every time I pulled off. Blank and mapping them out cured all of it. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Interesting. I was told when I had my EGRs disabled that they needed to be in order before the software installation. I know there are different providers of this patch, so perhaps it depends on which one you choose.

Read any fault codes if you can. If you get EGR codes
Cheapest way is to blank them first and see if it fixes your power issues.
I think the bell patch is for when you have an iid yourself

Hey sorry I’ve been busy and the car has been stood on the drive until I get some free time to read the codes. I do have the IID tool, if I have to buy that patch then so be it.
If I do blank them, won’t that affect performance? What I mean is I blank them without the patch right away, in my mind the ecu will still want to control the EGR valves and in turn find it cannot do the gas re-circulation and it’ll still have a lack of power, right?

No.
Full power should be returned if the EGR's are the fault .
The ECU light may come on without the patch

Ah that’s alright. Cheers Pete.
As soon as I get a few mins spare I’ll read the codes and report back.
