My 2006 SE manual

After having a 200tdi disco commercial, 300tdi 3 door, D2 SE (plus various S2, S3, stage1v8 etc) I now have a D3

A bit of a project. It’s generally in good nick with an almost complete service history at 150k miles.

A few things on the immediate todo list:

Lose the Range Rover sport 22” alloys
Fix the non function rear passenger door lock
Change every fluid and filter

Then remind myself how all the gadgets work. I did the Land Rover e-learning on the D3 when first released but not looked at one since.

Welcome Thumbs Up

Number 1 on your list has to be - check to make sure the oil pump has been changed to the uprated one.

Nothing else matters until you have confirmed this, without warning it can turn your pride and joy into the largest paperweight you will ever own.

Theres loads of threads covering this

Old

New

Thanks for the tip. I have a receipt for the timing belt being done about 40k ago but no mention of oil pump. A quick search shows it’s not simple job to identify if it’s done.

Starting to wonder if it’s worth looking at getting the whole lot done. Doubt it’s a cheap job 😀

look on it as an investment because if the tensioner goes, your pride and joy is worth scrap value
better to drive it on the road than ending up

Well the todo list is starting to grow.

Wheels are swapped for 18’s, door lock replaced and service done.

We have timing belt and oil pump being planned with local indie LR specialist.

But now have to add:

Diagnose air susp. leak
Replace rear upper suspension bushes
Front wheel bearing
Steering play to diagnose and fix. Hoping it’s worn TREs

I suspect the list is going to grow as it going in for an MOT this week. I bought this vehicle knowing I was going to need to do some work but it’s MOT from 3 months and 70 miles ago only had an advisory for worn front tyres. Having had chance to jack it up and have a good look, there is no way it should have passed an MOT with the suspension, wheel bearing and steering the way it is.

After much swearing, blood being split from knuckles and a lot sweat, I now have a new front lower suspension arm, a new rear upper suspension arm, two new ARB links and a new rear prop shaft fitted.

Also replaced injector no. 6 which has cured the clouds of white smoke at idle.

It’s also the proud owner of new timing belts and a new oil pump.

Just need to replace the front ARB bushes and links and then figure out and fix:

the whine from the front end. Suspecting it’s the diff Sad

The intermittent road speed related squeak at the back

The air suspension leak (and noisy compressor)

The continued injector imbalance that I think will need at least 2 more injectors

What’s wrong with the FBH that keeps causing it to lock out. Still can’t believe I m going to plug my laptop into the heater! My series 2 has a tap on the engine block to turn the heater on Smile

To be honest, I got some help. What a pig of a job. Had to cut the damn thing off and replace the brake pipes as they disintegrated.

Closely followed by swapping a rear prop on the driveway. Using a 24” breaker bar to shift the bolts when you have 18” of space isn’t fun either Smile

You would think keeping these damn vehicles on the road for 25 years would be enough masochism for one man!

Ha! Well we're 2006 Manual twins so suspect we are covering much of the same ground. But I've had mine for coming up to 6 years so its almost "fixed"....
