I presume next step is cleaning.... |
|
Since buying my D3, the FBH has never worked (As far as I can tell). This is despite it being cleaned in November by the previous owner, so I was tiny bit disappointed.
IID gives various fault codes - typically akin to (B1D29-93 (2E)) to do with No Start even after restart - component failure - no operation.
A couple of days ago I ran a test , which seemed to fire it for a minute or two.
Yesterday I ran a Prime (Which I read today from @Motolabs is probably unwise) and a Test, which fired it up (Loads of white smoke) so I ran it for 10 minutes whilst I went for a drive - and oh my goodness -3 outside, but it warmed up beautifully. I stopped to get a celebratory bottle of wine (There was still white smoke from under the bonnet when I stopped - so it was still working)- came back out from the shop - no FBH!
Tried the test again today, and it ran for a moment (60seconds?) enough for the exhaust to get warm, but hasn't run again since.
So, any advice for next steps please?
Apart from the smoke, how can I tell it's running? IID value somwhere?
Are there any particular values I can/should check on IID for faults before progressing?
Do I take FBH apart and clean it again anyway?
Do I buy a FBH test cable (If so, I'm a little confused as to which one I need now)
I didn't know what I was missing - but now I've felt the heat - I have to get this fixed
Many thanks

If I were you, I’d get the club shop cable and OBD2 USB reader combo and then install the webasto software at it will give you a lot more information as to what is going on.
You will be able to see how it is operating and if the change over from the glow plug ramp down to full combustion is working as it should, or if it shuts down there.
If the FBH fails to start a number of times I believe it can enter a locked out state that means it doesn’t try after that. The Webasto WTT software will show you that too if it’s the case.

You should driven it for atleast an hour, with no stops of the engine....
when it smokes it is still too, i mean far too, dirty....
The 10 minutes rule, is for healthy FBH units.. Best regards
Harold

That would fit the symptoms nicely!
And would the answer to that be clean it (Again?)

Thanks - I wish I'd known that at the time. Everywhere I've read has been saying 10 minutes
IF I get it running again, AND I run it for at least an hour - is that likely to assist in the reliability/cleaning - or make no real difference?
