Rear Diff lock Disco4
Hello, I'm new here. I only speak German so I have to translate everything. I own a Discovery 4 2010 HSE Unfortunately without rear differential lock. I would now like to install the original lock. Will this work? What kind of material do I need? What do I have to calculate in terms of price? many thanks and greetings from switzerland.

New diff,
New drive shafts
Diff control module
wiring
Turn on with IID tool or similar
Drive shafts are roughly £175 each I think
Diff goes for a lot of money if complete with actuator £500+
ECU is cheap circa £10005 D3 V8 HSE, LR Passion tree bars, wildbear compressor guard, LRP switch panel, ARB rear locker + compressor, Trigger 6 shooter electrical system

that means I have to replace the whole diff? not only install the control block (bottles similar to the top of the diff) above? Where can I get the parts? Thanks for the answer

My car is in garage, getting locking diff installed. Yes you need whole diff with motor on top. Drive shafts - you can get them in salvage yard from low mileage Disco or Sport. You can keep your existing shafts, but they are not as strong as ones from locking diff.
I paid just 60 quid per used shaft.
Your biggest headache will be wiring. Make sure your mechanic is very good with electrics. You need to remove wiring without cutting off connectors.

"Upon collection, the seller stated that the half shafts were the same length as my existing items (he had some available for comparison), but that the ones fitted to the e-diff equipped cars had larger CV units fitted. This surprised me; from my generic engineering understanding, I believed there would more strain on the shafts of an open diff vehicle, due to the shocks imposed by the constant application of the brakes as the ETC kicked in – surely these cars should have the stronger CV joints?"

Of course you can put in an ARB airlocker in the back (or front) in a D4 or D3 - if in a D4 you just need to replace the D4 diff with a D3 diff.
