D3 FBH Controller
Only just discovered this possible mod. It sounds like a good idea, however, from your experiences, does the pre-heated engine really make a difference to your overall range based on running the engine once the coolant has warmed up? Does the cab warm up and defrost the windows significantly quicker?
Are the only options for triggering the controller to switch on:
1. Keyfob (third button)
2. Text to sim
Can the controller be on a timer so that you don't have to remember to switch the controller on in the mornings?
What is your general feelings on this mod, worth the money or a gimmick?
Cheers,
Y

Range - Do you mean if it uses loads of fuel ? No
Yes there is a timer option. Webasto do a timer oval thing.
I would go with a remote control myself. So much easier.
Yes its worth it. You get some warmth in the heater.
But it depends how much you pay.
Can vary from £60 (diy) to £300

Thanks for the reply. I actually meant fuel tank range, as in the winter I'm getting around 320ish on a tank where as in the summer it's more like 380ish, and I'm assuming it's the overfueling required on my short cold journeys to work.
Can you tell me more about the DIY option?
Cheers,
Y

The fbh uses a very small amount of fuel, having recently fitted a remote to override the cars system we use it before we go out for about 20/30 mins car is defrosted and instant heat from the blowers. Car starts nice n easy to no long cranking due to cold weather.

I have a FBH on a timer and it is good. The only thing with mine (and probably most D3's) is that they're not serviced and so will sometimes not switch on because they're clogged up with carbon due to age. It doesn't give a warning on the dash for this either (but will on an IID), it'll just be temperamental. There are guides on here for how to service it to make it work as best it can - It's just cleaning it all out really. It uses a very little amount of fuel and should not switch on if your fuel light is on anyway.
I'm a bit surprised by your mileage - I get around 450 to 500 miles in my D3 throughout the year. It's a diesel and probably 65% town and 35% motorway. Is yours diesel or petrol?

I bought the one from https://lr-fbh.co.uk/shop/ for £125 and works of the third fob button and the "home lights" Press it once for between 1 - 7 secs and off 7 - 15 secs.
Easy to fit, and even has the wire to pin 2 fitted with the correct pin connector.
It stays on for either 15 mins or 30 mins, you change the jumper inside the control to change the length of time.
Good mod to have, I was going to buy one of the others but it went from £60 - £240! The cabin is toasty warm as soon as you start up.

Can you give me link to your device?
I tried to buy kit from Simon (lr-fbh.co.uk/shop), but he stopped responding to my emails, have to look for other solutions.

The one shown I made up my self and fitted it to my mates D3, I bought the one off the nay before winter set in at a total price of £55 but as soon as it got cold it shot up to £260. Supply and demand I suppose.
So for the one I made I bought the remote kit off the bay and the w-bus converter off the Ebay guy and worked it all out my self and hey presto.
I will look up the Ebay items and post them for you with some instruction on what to connect to what to get it all to work

Nothing else needed just connect the w-bus converter to a switching relay operated by a remote and your away.

You may as well have a 15 minute timer too for all of the £6 it costs.
As per my previous link

Ok, I know I'm a few years behind you all. So it sounds like the W-bus converter is the h/ware that can talk to the FBH. I need an input (third button, GSM, remote) along with a timer?
Is an independent thermostat required just to ensure the temp is below the set point before sending a signal to the timer?
Is the FBH checking the coolant temperature only and will switch off once at temperature regardless of any input via pin 2?
