Shire Fab side steps - any good?
My standard boards look tatty and are constantly covered in mud.
As much as I want the super expensive ones, I just cant warrant spending that amount of money on them as they wont be used for their intended purpose. Go off road regularly but nothing too strenuous.
Anyway was thinking of changing to these at a third of the price, but wondered if anyone had them and what the general and paint wear was like?

I’ve just had some shire fabrication sliders fitted and so far am impressed though I’ve not put them to the test, the Indy who fitted was impressed by their strength. I know some people say their sliders are showing signs of rust after a year and did consider that when purchasing mine but could not justify the cost of buying the likes of Prospeed sliders.General Grabber AT3's

I’ve got some on mine. Strength wise they’re superb. I’d recommend putting a door seal along the top for extra water sealing (lots of info on the Facebook forum) and buy stainless fittings. They’re in a vulnerable area so minimising their chance of a seized fitting is worth it. In terms of powder coat, not great. First appearances are ok but mine only last one winter before looking ropey this year. I’ve just had them re-powdercoated and the difference is night and day. Would I have them over prospeed? I think so, assuming the powder coat is tougher now which I’m sure it is, I’m still saving a big chunk of cash and have a great product.
Cheers

My shire sliders were strong and well made but the finish was shocking! The rust started showing in a matter of weeks! I was just about to get them blasted and powder coated again but sold my disco without needing to do them! If I brought another set I would ask to buy them bare and get them finished myself!D3 x2 now gone

Hmmmm - thanks for the replies but wasn't the answer I was hoping for
Not looking for strength in particular - more something that doesn't hold the mud, doesn't rust and is wear resistant to children

Just my opinion - if you don't have side steps already, don't bother fitting them. Drop your sill covers, clean up any crud, and protect your sills inside and out.
It seems to me that having side steps fitted is a quick and easy route to rusted out sills; although I accept that you could take preventative steps if fitting them now, as opposed to having had them from factory.

I really like mine. Strength has been excellent and saved the side of the car numerous times while greenlaning.
They came with stainless fittings and I took the opportunity to clean and waxoyle the sills when fitting.
I am not sure you will get any better for the money. I personally dont like powder coat, I prefer pain as it is easier and cheaper to redo when it inevitable needs it. Mine do need painting now after the offroad contact.

Have shire ones on mine, very impressed. Yes, the plastic trim needs to be removed.

I have just fitted the TerraFirma sliders. Found them to be the best value not least because I shipped to the US. I spent quite a lot of time preparing the vehicle (sills) and put that in my post. The fit is good enough; it's not perfect (one fits close to the sills perfect; the other may be slightly warped but you can't really see it. I replace LR OEM side steps as the ability to stand on the sliders is useful, but I hated the OEM boards as they just got in the way.PAGODA

They are quite heavy. Can be done on your own with the help of a trolley jack. Coated sills with Dinitrol before fitting.

I've got the Shire ones on mine. Yes the powder coating has come off, but they were galvanised first so no corrosion.
I'm taking them off my current D4 to take the remaining powder coat off and then etch priming and coating with Line-X.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8
