Failure to start (selector not rising, brake pedal hard) |
|
Anyone else had a breakdown issue due to a D4 (2016) failing to start?
Finished a 70 mile journey, stopped off at a friends, came back to the car within 5 minutes, tried to start:
1. The ignition switched on as normal. No indication of battery issue.
2. The brake pedal was very hard and difficult to depress.
3. The gear selector failed to rise.
4. The car would not crank over on using the start button with brake pedal depressed.
The gear selected was showing park, but not rising. A firm shove a few times on the brake pedal did not help. Getting out and locking the whole car for a few mins then repeating did not help either.
Anyone else experienced similar or know how to fix?
I did have a 2010 6 speed disco 4 that once had the same issue with a hard pedal and would not shift from park, very aggressive pedal depress fixed it.
Thanks all

Gear Shift Module
Becoming fairly common, done a few now
The GSM provides an earth path back to the BCM when in P/N. When the module fails, this earth path is not provided, hence the non start situation My D3 Build Thread

Hi crahsa,
Bumping this old thread as I have hit the very same issue as yourself and I'm keen to understand how big a PITA it was to resolve - how long did it take and was it pricey to fix? As it's a Land Rover product and electronics are involved I am assuming the answers will be a long time and a lot of money?
Many thanks,
Ian.
