HELP - My Suspension Hates Me

HELP! D3 is driving me mad.........background - replaced both rear upper arms and both front lower arms, all back together and ready for alignment, so checked ride heights and that's where it goes to Censored .............. Heights were out at the back (not a huge surprise as height sensors attached to them) so plugged in the IId Tool and went through the guided calibration (466 front/485 rear) reactivate SLS and rechecked - both fronts still 466 and O/S rear still 485 but N/S rear up at 505mm, to cut the story short I've redone it multiple times and it always goes back to 505. I've checked for faults - none on suspension and looked at live data and the sensor changes with height the same as all the other 3. What the hell can I do different to get get it the right height so I can get the alignment done please?

Would putting it in "tight tolerance" mode allow you to get the alignment done?

May i ask a Daft question if I may plse , yeh i know Laughing

Would it help getting the alignment done first before setting heights , ie, if one of the wishbones were slightly set lower on the elongated bolt aperture Plse , Or doesn’t it matter which way round u do it

Including if the wishbones wernt set the same on each axle can it make the height sensor push at a higher / lower difference causing them not to match the range of travel that there limited to

Hope u didn’t mind me asking

Many thks as always Thumbs Up

Ps, @200Tdi, hope u didn’t mind me asking and plse take no notice , the other guys here have extensively more knowledge than myself

I think they say do the calibration before allignment

BTW, with the bushes, you are meant to set the wheel height (with a jack) to the typical road going height, before you tighten the bushes.
I guess this is to improve bush life

Hi Pete

Many thks as always , must admit I done height after alignment , but suppose that was because I didn’t know better back then

Remember u telling me about that ref pre loading and did indeed do that , assume as u say it’s to stop the bushes from twisting as the wheels set back onto the ground , also about that white bit of plastic that’s u push in after , that’s a bump stop wasn’t it plse

Many thks and always very grateful Bow down

Ps, hope this finds u well Thumbs Up

Did you ever find an solution to this?

Have a similar problem. What ever I do the back stays at 495 once I reactivate the EAS. Seems that its not saving the settings.

it turned out the the new Merle arms had the 'peg' for the height sensor in a different place which caused the sensor to go 'out of range' and the only solution I could come up with was to lengthen the plastic rod between the arm and sensor arm

That might explain it. I calibrated the sensors this morning and I think I will change the calibration from left side to right side (one was a small adjust / the other rather large)

If the height sensors are old it can be worn and not giving a correct signal witch means when you calibrate one time and raise it up and down a couple of times it can be changed.
I cant see that the meyle arms should have the sensor pins in another place than original meyle just copies the originals so would be identical. I would rather think someone has experimentet by moving or bending the pins to alter the height.

the old arms were of unknown origin and had straight pins where the brand new Merle arms had 'joggled' pins and were about 25mm across the arm from the position of the old ones - nothing bend or cut off and re-welded......
