Tyre Pressure Monitoring System |
|
This maybe a stupid question, but with the release of the faultmate msv being able to modify the Car config file on the D3, would it be possible to do an after market fit on the PTMS system, maybe Wiggs, TLO and BBS SPY would be able to put their input into it with all required hardware and cost and their thoughts on it, if it is possible??
Or should i just get a Third Party one??

It's a good question....I'm pretty sure it could be enabled if you could retro-fit all the stuff.
I vaguely remember looking into it a year or so ago.....from what I remember, you will need:
5 x valves with TPMS transducers fitted
4 (or maybe 5) readers to be fitted close to each wheel.
an antenna thingy that fits inside the headlining
some other bits that I can't remember now.
There's also a fairly long winded way of setting up/calibrating the system that involves fitting the spare on one of the rear corners, putting the D3 in a certain mode and driving for 'x' km/miles then swapping it over again etc....
I think Wiggs fitted a 3rd party one with Centrafuse (CarPC) integration - I'm also sure some of the Aussie chaps have fitted aftermarket ones successfully 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Lee,
Hi.
I have a TyreDog system fitted for a year now.
See;
http://www.tyredog.zylux.com.au/td1000ax.html
It made me aware of my left rear tyre slowly deflating over a 3-4 week period and getting slowly worse with the times to re-inflate it getting closer together. A small nail was found in the thread and repaired and now all pressures are the same again.
I organised a bit of a deal for 12 people and got a reduction down to A$350 or something like that I think. They will do furhter discounts for bigger orders >25.
I got mine from TJM in Sydney but they do have a UK distrubutor too.

OK....I had a look at this last night.
As Nick said, you need:
4 or 5 tyre pressure sensors/valves.
4 sensor readers - one for each wheel arch. Front ones are fitted in front of the wheels, rear ones behind the rear wheels.
Dash switch panel with TPMS switch fitted (this is the bit I forgot about yesterday)
The TMPS ECU that Nick mentioned is fitted into the headlining (it's not an antenna ). This is wired to each reader (+/-) and also to the TPMS switch and the LED indicator in the TPMS switch. It also needs permanent 12V, switched 12V and 0V. Then there is the low and high speed CAN bus connections that communicate with the various modules (ABS/ATC etc) to get ambient temperature and vehicle speed.
It also gets info from the ECM about the engine state and timing/km data from the instrument cluster.
Also - you'll need to be able to program the TPMS ECU to tell it what size wheels/tyres are being used and other stuff....
It sounds pretty complicated TBH and pbhawkin's solution would probably be my best bet 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

TLO / Nick
Can you put together a quote for the entire system plus the relevant wiring looms?
The pricing doesn't seem too bad if you compare to the aftermarket systems

So just to reacp then:-
4 or 5 TMPS units LR010532 £92.55 (For 4)
Pick up sensor RRE000010 £15.13 £60.52 (for 4)
TPMS Ecu NNW501997 £80.72
Dash switch £50
Sub total £283.79
Plus Wiring/can bus loom ETc £????
Plus beer tokens for wiggs to be able to switch it on and hopefully it might work.
We're still a little off the £328 that landrover charge for it to be factory fitted?
I remember seeing all the options from the CCF file that BBS SPY listed but can't find the thread now, i know that all the high and low warning pressures were part of it but don't remember seeing anything about the wheel size etc
It might be cheaper and easier to fit one of these http://www.rockshore.uk.com/tyresure-tyre-...1689-p.asp

Cheers paulp, i've been looking for that for ages on here, didn't think to look on the BBS web site
You're right it does have the wheel size etc as an option.
Thats alot of option to try and get right, and it could be alot of visits to wiggs too.
