Discovery 3 temperature at max but not overheating

My 2005 Discovery 3 the temperature gauge is at maximum all the time but not overheating, fitted new temperature sensor but get no temperature reading at all and runs rough. Put back in old temperature sensor and temperature back to maximum. At a loss as to what is causing this any help would be fantastic.

Change the oil temperature sender!
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Maybe unplugging the oil temp sensor in sump maybe be a temporary solution

Oil temperature sensor signal is on the same as the water temp. I’m betting you have an oil temp sensor fault logged. Look at the live values and you’ll probably see the oil temp at -20 or -30

Replace the oil temp sensor and the rough running is likely to stop along with the water temp mis reading. Thumbs Up
