They are VIN locked unless it is a Pro unit...

It will cost £25 to transfer ownership to you and your VIN plus £50 if it is eligible for and you want a 2 year warranty.
So at £375 + £50 compared to £436 inc VAT & delivery from say Island 4x4, I'd buy new.
Offer him less Smile

Not sure about the price but yes, they are locked to the VIN. You would need to buy a licence off GAP Diagnostics for your car. It's £25 - £50 to transfer ownership and then £60 for a licence for your car.

Not sure if it is +£60 to add the VIN as that is a second/additional vehicle.

As I read it the £25 is for:
"The service is for customers who have purchased a used unit which needs to be transferred to their vehicle and name. This also gives access to technical support.

The original owners warranty is not transferable." << so add £50 as well

He probably didn’t pay that much for it as the have recently had a price increase.-£300/£325 second hand seem to be the going rate, but they sell very fast within a few hours on the site.

I thought they were closer to £500 these days.

Glad you can still get them for less
