Hopefully someone can help had the car 3 week's checked the oil last week said it needed half a ltr checked again a week later and display showing on half full ?

did you see where on the scale it was before you added the 1/2 litre ?
I think that if it's showing a level anywhere above the minimum, just leave it alone but keep checking it. they are ridiculously sensitive to the angle the engine is at in relation to absolutely level, so try and park in exact same position when you do the checks ... and leave it at least 1/2 an hour after parking before checking. .

regardless of service history. Get all fluids out and check the health of your diffs and engine. At the least for the piece of mind.
Meter the volume of oil you'll get out of the engine. Once the engine is filled up with the correct amount of oil, re-check and remember the level corresponding to the amount of oil put in. If oil is needed as per indicator add up 100 ml each time until full.
At least you will get a feel how much oil is equivalent to each segment of the indicator. Achim
