Discovery 3 2.7tdv6 engine immobilised no crank no start

Hello

If anyone can help me it would be great as im really stuck right now. I got into my discovery and the battery was virtually dead as when i turned the ignition no lights nothing. I then put the jumper cables on for a good 10 minutes before attempting to crank the engine and the car didnt even attempt to crank? All I could hear was a click noise. I then disconnected the battery and re connected only for my horn/alarm to go off like crazy. The alarm will go off everytime the battery is connected and on the dashboard there is a red light flashing. Its almost as if the car thinks its still locked? I tried pressing unlock or lock on my key fob but the key fob doesnt seem to be working?

I initially thought the starter had gone so checked voltage at the starter and saw on the first attempt less than 6volts and second attempt 1v. I didnt end up replacing the starter motor as i realised i needed to figure out why there is no power going to the starter motor in the first place. Starter was always starting the car strong never caused any problems therefore not likely to be the starter.

I thought maybe the keyfob battery was dead, i cut open the keyfob just to find the voltage is over 3v so battery is good but why is my car not unlocking with the keyfob and why is the immobiliser alarmed? Most definitely the immobiliser is stopping the car from cranking but why?

Have checked all fuses and relays and have charged the battery up overnight on a trickle charger but the same thing happens. Cant start the car and alarm going off.

Thanks.

Battery is only 6 months old and car was starting perfectly before this issue. Have also tried a battery from my other car (battery smaller in size however no crank just clicking).. headlights and all electronics are working correctly except the car wont crank at all.

Battery’s can become dead within 24h if in deepcycle... dot.

A smaller battery will not do it... not enough cranking power CCA

Since the issue “starts” with an empty battery, it seems strange to me that a crankshaft or other hardware is the problem, broken crankshafts or other metal do not drain battery’s....

So you need the right amount of CCA IMHO

Check the earth wire's and the main fuse on the battery lead the 40 or 60 amp one.

Have tried a brand new battery and the alarm still goes off as soon as the battery is connected. Confirmed there is no issue with battery as this is the third battery I tried now.

Took the key fob apart and tested board with multimeter to see if the fob is working and when pressing the unlock button on the fob the voltage on the multimeter goes down a small amount then back up to over 3v.. this confirms the fob works fine.

Tried giving the starter a direct feed and all i seem to get is sparks but motor doesnt run. Although the new starter has 3 terminals.. positive, negative and control terminal and it works fine however the starter on the car also has 3 terminals but i cant reach the control terminal. I can only reach the positive and negative terminals and when connecting them to the battery i get some spark but that's all. Do I HAVE to also bridge the control terminal to get the starter to power up?

Main issue i think at the moment is the alarm going off and the engine being immobilised... If I fix this issue first then i think the starter will get power and car will start fine. What else can i check if the key fob works fine and the battery is brand new?

The red light on the bottom of the clocks indicates I believe that the immobilizer is armed ... This should go off when you put the key in the ignition and and the chip code is read by the reader built into the ignition barrel... If the car isn't recognising the key it won't start

Thats exactly what happens except my red light doesn't go away after putting the key in the car. What can i check? The key is fine so im guessing i need to look at the immobiliser module now or something?

First thing if you have a spare key tucked away try that... It can be one of a few things .. the chip in the key gone bad- ( very unlikely) the reader around the key barrel gone bad or lost power... Or some how the car has unlearned your key..... The battery in the fob only powers unlocking .... Best bet get a decent diagnosis machine on it that can read all the modules .... A generic code reader won't cut it
