Won’t start after engine change |
|
Put an s type engine in my disco, tried starting it today, after priming the fuel it did eventually start but the charging light was on, so thinking I may have missed putting a wire on the alternator I stopped it checked the wire, all was ok so tried to start it again but nothing. It just spins over. Anyone any ideas what the problem might be? Thanks.

Any codes?
A shot in the dark with no info... too many variables
What did you change, replace on the auxiliary’s of the engine?
A MY 2007 LR D3 ECU (EU4) needs to control another HPFP than a S-type JAG HPFP for example..who still has the EU3 HPFP (although is effectively a EU4 engine as a whole) Best regards

Stripped the s type engine bare and built everything from the disco onto it.
Don’t have any diagnostics to suit Landrovers as I have just bought this one. What is the best value diagnostics for the 3? Thanks.

Yupp! IID
you did a kind of rebuild, quite extensive... only LR specific will do then IMHO
think in long terms.... it is an investment, but both worth it and the "rest" value of an IID is quite extensive.. more than 50% i have even seen 75% here.. Best regards

If it ran initially, it must be fuel related if you did not touch anything. I would try bleeding it again first and try to check the pressure of the low pressure fuel pump.

Did you bleed it via the schrader valve on top of engine?Sounds simple i know but worth trying again as these are to start if there is air in system.

Yeah bled it at the valve but no use.
Where does the camshaft sensor need to be fitted? When it’s pushed into its hole the magnet in the sensor draws tight to the sprocket, I pulled the sensor back a touch and tightened it there, I don’t know if it needs to be left tight against the sprocket or not.
That’s the only other thing I can think of that might be causing it not to start

Getting someone to check for codes next week.
There’s no adjustment on the cam sensor but I just pulled it back a hair from the sprocket, or should I have left it in fully? Where the magnet pulls it to?

You'll need to crank and bleed at least 6 times or more.
