Radio silence and MOST Diagnostics..... D3 2007 HSE |
|
Hi all,
***Bump***
Roll on a few months and few more issues and I'm back to trying to get my radio to work.
Last week I had the rescue services out for a non-staring D3 2007 HSE.
Both times the battery was the suspect.
First time a 'continue using, but get replaced' diagnostic.
Second, the battery is on the way out please buy a new one.
The battery is a Varta H3 019 830CCA.
It has worked well for almost 3 years, but does come with a 4 year Varta warranty, so it will be going back to Varta.
I have replaced this with another Varta H3 019 830CCA and so far so good.
(Also buying a Sealey battery checker/tester for future use.....)
EXCEPT the continued radio silence.......
I have gone into the 753 secret menu and run the MOST diagnostics.
http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...ost_d3.JPG
Looks like Most thinks all is OK, but not sure if Mpr=5 is the correct number.
There is radio silence and it also won't take in any AUX source audio.
Everything else seems to work, including radio tuning, CDs, SAT NAV, Bluetooth, etc.
Just no sound from the radio except the occasions squeal.
It used to play intermittently, but no sound is now the norm.....
Could this be a simple bad connection? Where do I find and access the MOST components and check for poor connections and/or damaged link cables?
Could it also be an old poor software load on the ECU that cover the Radio function?
Any suggestions/recommendations on next steps?
Many thanks
JC

****** BUMP ******
Can anyone shed some light on how the Radio in the D3 works and fault finding please?
I am beginning to believe it is Rocket Science, as well as Fibre Optic magic.......
Thanks

Hi,
If it is a duff amplifier, which one(s) is it likely to be and where can I find it in the car please?
A Schematic would be helpful.
I have no idea of where any of these components are in the vehicle so they can be checked and replaced.
Thanks

Hi,
Did that and found loads of links........
The most useful one though points to a problem with the MOST cables........ rather than the amp being faulty.......
This was my first thought on this after reading other posts......
How can the sound from the CD and SAT Nav work fine if the Amp id 'duff'.......
As I understand it there is only one amp - under the front seat......
This strange logic doesn't stop LR dealers from assuming the worse and recommending to customers that the amp is 'duff' and needs replacing.......
Currently ordering some MOST cables and Loopbacks and checking out youtube for how to remove the central console.......
Making slow progress, but thanks for the heads up on the duff amp as that took me to the MOST useful post I've so far seen on this......

if you had a most break then you wouldn't get any sound and your sat nav would not work , your most system must be complete as you get sound and your nav works
may i suggest your head unit may be at fault
ps maybe you could fill in your profile so we knew what veh you was talking about then there maybe a member near you who would be willing to try his head unit in your veh if compatible

Hi,
I think the problem is bad cables rather than a unit failure per say .........
The car is a D3 2.7D HSE from 2007 - what other detail is required?
Not really ready to start swapping components until I'm happy the cabling is good and fault free.
The Head unit may be faulty, but it looks like it is mostly working...... and sometimes the radio does come on, which makes me think it is more link/cable/connection issue.....
Thanks

If your sat nav works ok then you don't have a break in your MOST cables

Had a strange issue on mine, no sound and no sat nav screen. Turned out to be a bad earth connection on the screen.
Maybe worth checking the wiring to the amp under the drivers seat
As others have said, you don't have a MOST cabling issue.

Hi again,
Some have pointed to the MOST Cables and links.
Some to the AMP. I've checked the connections to the back of the Amp and they all look good to me.
Some to the Head Unit.......... how can this be checked without swapping out to another one?
Any clues on how to test/diagnose the head unit?
Hidden menus etc. ??
Can that be used to rule out the head unit and back to the connections.
I have a IIDTool - can that be used to check diagnose the ICE/MOST kit?
Could it be old software in the ECUs or the CCF file for the car......
What I don't understand is that the sound from the SAT Nav, BT and CD all works fine, but no sound from the Radio......
It started as an intermittent problem and now seems pretty fixed....
Other than paying a dealer lots of ££££ with confidence in success I'm really stuck on this and I want to get the radio back.....
Many thanks

The amp works on different channels internally. I would suggest that the problem is with the radio channel on the amp if all other channels are working.
You have done a hard reset I assume? Bodsys Brake Bible

Hi,
Yes, I have done a hard reset - several times now, but no success.....
The radio and aux input has no sound, just the occasional crackle.....
Are there any diagnostics/checks I can run on the Amp ahead of swapping it out for a new/used one?
I want to make sure it is the amp before investing in a new one.....
Thanks
