Hi all, I am after some advice please.
I bought my D4 approved used, full LRSH, 11 months ago. I got 1 year warranty + 1 year extended warranty in the deal from a main dealer (not local to me).
The car was fitted with a brand new LR engine by the dealer, the unfortunate previous owner had camshaft failure and had traded it in with them. The engine has 2 year LR warranty.
My question is this: My 6 year service is due, and I just had a price of £646.00 for it. Extortionate for what it includes (just fluid and filter changes). I have no doubt they will also decide I need discs, brake pads etc in order to fleece a few more £ out of me.
I would like to use my local Indy, who I trust, and serviced my D3 for years. Probably for half the price.
I am not sure where I would stand with the extended warranty though, - or the 2 year warranty on the engine Does anyone have any sensible advice?
Many thanks. Johnny. 2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

It must be serviced using genuine parts iaw the service schedule. As long as you do that you don’t need to use a dealer, even from brand new. You will probably lose the “goodwill gestures” from LR though when warranties are done Joined the BMWX5 45e group

All the extended warranties I have used, just state that the vehicle must be serviced to the manufacturers specification at a VAT approved garage . I would read the small print on your warranty's

I had a failed engine (on a Defender) and had recently had parts replaced by an independant. LR/Dealer tried all the excuses in the book to wriggle out of paying including:
1 Serviced by other than LR dealer
2 Non-original parts (they were original)
My understanding is that the only chance you have of getting them to pay for a snapped crank, for example, is goodwill. There will be none if you have used an indie.
I'm in a similar situation, 1 year left of approved warranty and umming and aahing which way to go. I think I'm probably going to have to swallow the cost of the dealer service for peace of mind for the last year of the warranty.

Parts do not have to be genuine, they must be equal to or better.

Whilst that may be true, how do you prove that, is it not easier just to use genuine? If it becomes subjective it gives a get out clause unless you can afford to fight it Joined the BMWX5 45e group

made the decision to go with vat registered Indy.
Engine has manufacturers warranty anyway as was new with 2 year warranty (so 1 year left on that) - service will be carried out using all genuine parts - so if that were to fail in next 12 months then would be covered by Land Rover.
Interestingly (check this if ever buying) - the LR extended warranty does NOT cover crankshaft failure (yes I know, you couldn't make it up could you?) - so you would be reliant on goodwill if you wanted to claim a failure on that.
After this 12 months I will use the money saved on 2 main dealer vs indy services, to pay for a new 3rd party warranty which does cover crank failure. 2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

Quite well known that one.......it’s not Land Rover that actually run it. Warranty direct seem to be the best and do cover crankshaft, you can also tailor the cover to what you want, I just took the core package on my D4 which covers engine and transmission Joined the BMWX5 45e group

You can also pre book the WD policy for £25 deposit and it will use your current mileage as the basis of the price, it goes up at every 10k miles. Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Was a year ago now, but I’m sure it was about £2k for three years core only, coming up 4 years old and 30k miles or so, do an on line quote, takes minutes. Think you need to phone to pre book in advance. Joined the BMWX5 45e group
