Options for DRLs
Hi,
I wouldn't mind adding some LED daytime running lights to my D3 Front and probably rear.
Any recommendations, I think the ones that fit where the fogs are (ring around the fog light) might be tidy, but also interested in ones for the grills, provided they dont block air too much.
What do you think.Disco 3: Lotus Elise S1: Ferguson T20: Audi A2

More or less plug and play, you just need to find a suitable switched live for the DRL bit.
I used the redundant smog sensor plug. And I've also fitted a switch to that to turn them off when I want.

I have just bought a pair from Advanced Factors, be careful of Amazon ones as there is a possibility of fake copies.Nick

Looking at the Osram site it’s says these are for the D4. Is there much fettling to get them to fit the D3 fog light holes / aperture - I already have the standard (Aka useless) LR fogs fitted as standard but don’t want to have to rip the bumper apart to fit DRL fogs if possible.
Cheers

powerful sell the conversion brackets and the light units.
osram and some cheaper ones
One of my DRLs failed and I managed to get an identical replacement ... but the other failed after a while and I couldn't find another matching one. plus I know they were cheap and how long would they last this time ?
anyway, couldn't find anything that fit the same gaps that were out-of-the-box DRLs so picked up a pair of Ring "Cruise-lite Ice" styling lamps and glued them in place.
Wired it all up using waterproof connectors so grille can be removed completely and used a normally closed relay to give the DRL function, i.e. off when headlights come on. Actually, I used two relays ... more on that in a moment.
So went from this ...

just so I could still drive about whilst piddling with the LED units.
Added the wiring ...
Waterproof box will get the benefit of some black paint if I get anoyed seeing it through the grille. It's held in place by bolting the lid section upwards ... makes it wasy to unclip the main part and have access to the relays.
So ... ignition on = DRLs lit

Lights on = DRLs go off

then ... and here's where 2nd NC relay comes in (although a diode would do same trick - thought of that after wiring the relay in )
Mainbeams on = DRLs back on.
